With Magic Millions talk heating up ahead of January, one of the sale’s past stars is back in the headlines. Houtzen — the brilliant 2017 Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner — has produced a debut-winning juvenile in the United States over the weekend.
Her two-year-old colt, Greenwich Village, made a strong impression first-up for champion trainer Bob Baffert, scoring in a 6½-furlong maiden at Los Alamitos. Ridden by Juan Hernandez, the Quality Road colt pushed through a split mid-race to take control before edging clear to win by half a length.

Greenwich Village was a $350,000 Keeneland September Yearling purchase for the SF Bloodstock/Starlight Racing/Madaket Stables partnership and becomes Houtzen’s second foal to race and second winner.
Houtzen, a daughter of I Am Invincible, was a Group III winner in Australia before an international campaign in 2019 that included a runner-up finish in the Group II King George Stakes at Goodwood. She was later offered at the 2020 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, selling for US$1.5 million to Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings.
Her latest success story adds to the growing excitement around the upcoming Magic Millions Carnival, where buyers will again search for the next Houtzen-like headline act.
