High profile owner Lloyd Williams has blasted officials over the requirement to have Melbourne Cup favourite Yucatan’s name changed ahead of the race.
Imported galloper Yucatan who was an ultra impressive winner in the Herbert Power Stakes seeing him firm into Melbourne Cup favouritism shares the same name as the Matthew Seyers trained SA galloper prompting officials to require a name change ahead of the Melbourne Cup.
Matthew Seyers when asked about the name clash did not see the issue with both horses racing with the same name saying the two horses will not race against each other and are very unlikely to even race on the same day.
Although that did not change the decision by officials which did not go down well with Williams and he has since blasted the officials calling them โfaceless peopleโ and saying they are the โThey are the laughing stock of the world,โ.
Williams also pointed out how stupid it would be if Winx were to travel overseas and require a name change.
Yucatan who is now referred to as Yucatan IRE is the $4.50 favourite in Melbourne Cup betting ahead of Tuesday’s race.
