The Terry Evans-trained Kypria, chasing her fourth successive win at Taree on Tuesday, is being considered for the two-day $1.62 million Scone carnival in May.

“If she comes through Taree, she’ll have a let-up and be readied for Scone,” Tuncurry-based Evans said.

“The owners (Andy and Kerry Chrysiliou) are going to Scone. They’d like the mare to race there.

The four-year-old, bred by the Chrysilious, solicitors from Sydney’s northern beaches, tackles the Matinee Meeting April 2 Benchmark 60 Handicap (1000m) at Taree with Matthew Bennett in the saddle.

Not only has the daughter of Antonius Pius been in rich form, so too the Evans stable.

“We’re going great guns,” the trainer said.

“We’ve managed a winner every week for the past two months. I hope it continues. It’s a nice change.

Kypria has strung together wins at Port Macquarie and last start in a 1000m benchmark 55 handicap at Taree on March 4.

Amazingly, Kypria’s three wins have all been by the same margin – 1-1/4 lengths.

“She’s got that great sprint at the 200 metres, just lets right down,” Evans said.

Kypria has an overall record of four wins and six placings from 26 starts.

“Even as a two-year-old she did it easy on the track, ran time but just wasn’t mature enough,” Evans said.

“Time and patience have been the key and the magnificent training facilities and surrounds at Tuncurry.

“People are finally starting to wake up how good this place (Forster-Tuncurry) is.

“Like me, horses are happy here, its fairly relaxed.

“She can wander and have a pick (of grass) for a couple of hours, I take her to the beach. She trots and canters.

“Varying the horses’ routine keeps them happy and Kypria is a happy horse.”
