Hong Kong superstar Ka Ying Rising has arrived safely in Sydney as preparations intensify for his defence of the $20 million Group 1 The Everest at Randwick on October 17.

The David Hayes-trained six-year-old was settling into his Canterbury quarantine base on Monday morning after departing Sha Tin on Sunday.
Ka Ying Rising is scheduled to make his first public appearance in Australia in a barrier trial at Randwick on October 6, following a similar preparation to the one that culminated in his Everest victory last year.
A five-person travelling team arrived in Sydney a day before the gelding, consisting of Hayes’ assistant trainer, rider, groom, veterinarian and farrier.
Ka Ying Rising’s condition, weight and food intake were closely monitored throughout the journey to Australia.
The champion sprinter is sharing quarantine with his retired half-brother Ka Ying Glory, who has accompanied him to Sydney. Ka Ying Cheer performed the companion role during last year’s successful campaign.
Ka Ying Rising arrives in Australia on a remarkable 21-race winning streak, having won 22 of his 24 career starts.
His latest performance came in the Group 3 HKSAR Chief Executive’s Cup Handicap at Sha Tin on September 6, where he carried 135 pounds and smashed his own 1200m course record with a time of 1:06.11.
The performance lifted Ka Ying Rising to a rating of 135 in the LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings, taking him beyond Black Caviar’s peak sprint rating.
A private Boeing 747 has already been chartered to transport Ka Ying Rising back to Hong Kong two days after The Everest.
Meanwhile, French Group 3 winner Primetime Emmy will not make the trip to Sydney after a late attempt to secure a place in The Everest was abandoned because of transport logistics.
