Champion jockey James McDonald is facing an uncertain future after a fall during the Wyong Cup day.
McDonald, a seven-time premiership winner, was riding the Godolphin-owned Razors in the Da Vinci 3&4YO Benchmark 68 Handicap when the accident occurred.
The mishap took place right after the race commenced; Razors knuckled during his first strides, causing the horse’s nose to touch the ground.
Consequently, McDonald was thrown headfirst into the turf.
Although conscious post-incident, McDonald showed signs of pain in a foot and his shoulder, according to Racing NSW steward Chris Albrecht.
Subsequently, he was ruled out for the rest of the day and transported to a hospital for scans to assess his condition.
McDonald, who has a strong Randwick book for the upcoming Chelmsford Stakes Day, was replaced by Tyler Schiller aboard Desert Icon for the Wyong Cup.
