Two-time Group 1 winner I Wish I Win enters the autumn with renewed energy, following back-to-back jumpout victories.
However, co-trainer Peter Moody admits he has yet to settle on a first-up race for the star galloper.
After I Wish I Win’s 1000m jumpout win at Pakenham on Tuesday, Moody suggested the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) on February 22 as the likely starting point, but it remains unconfirmed.
“He’s had two jumpouts and he’s looked super in them,” Moody said. “He won the trial softly and looked to have a little blow.”
Moody added that while the Futurity is the first option, it is not guaranteed.
The trainer’s main concern is firm track conditions, explaining, “I won’t be presenting him on a Good 3 anywhere. He’s an older horse and we know he can be a bit jarry in the knees.”
Moody remains open-minded about I Wish I Win’s autumn path, having nominated him for the TJ Smith Stakes, Doncaster Handicap and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
“At the moment, we’re just worried about getting him back to the races and performing,” he said.
