Clayton Douglas is confident Giga Kick is ready to fire in Saturday’s Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup in Brisbane.
The star sprinter returned with an eye-catching third in the G1 Goodwood, surging late in his first run back after nearly six months.
Douglas said the gelding has bounced out of that run in terrific order and handled the travel north without any fuss.
“Really happy with how he’s settled in. He’s a fairly seasoned campaigner now, he’s done a bit of travel,” he said.
“He hasn’t missed a beat since he’s arrived … we’re looking forward to Saturday.”
Douglas was also thrilled with Giga Kick’s work at Doomben and again on Tuesday morning, saying the horse has tightened up perfectly for his second-up assignment.
Giga Kick is a $4.40 chance for the 1300-metre race, with Mark Zahra to ride again.
A Stradbroke Handicap tilt remains on the cards, pending how he pulls up from this weekend’s run.
