The Freedman name is synonymous with Australian racing, and brothers Michael, Richard and Anthony will have a chance at bragging rights at Rosehill on Saturday.
The Bisley Workwear Handicap (1100m) for two-year-olds sees a field of ten acceptors, with the Freedman trained runners occupying the first, second and third saddlecloths.
Outspan, a colt by Bivouac trained by Michael Freedman ran on well behind Magic Millions 2yo Classic contender Knightsbridge.
Richard, who trains in partnership with son Will, has Written In Munny, a Written Tycoon colt on debut who won his most recent trial.
Anthony, who trains in partnership with his son Sam, has a colt by Pinatubo out of Calliope, which makes him a half-brother to star filly Tempted.
Written In Munny was a $360,000 yearling purchase, out of an American listed winner called Always In The Munny, and Richard Freedman said it wouldn’t be the first time the brothers had contested a race.
“We’ve all had a runner in the same race before, but I don’t think it’s happened with first starters,” Freedman said.
With the bureau of meteorology predicting anywhere from 9-45mm of rain on Saturday in Sydney, Freedman will keep an eye on conditions on race day before deciding whether to run but said Written In Munny looks talented.
“I think the weather will play a part on whether that actually takes place,” Freedman said.
“We’re always sort of wary with that sort of stuff.
“He’s a nice horse. He’s fast, he’s got speed.
“He showed that in his trial, he’s just got to convert that to race performance.
“He was probably a little left in the tank, but he ran a second and a half quicker than any other trial, including group horses.
“He’s a nice horse, he can go on and he’ll probably be a better three-year-old.”
The favourite for Saturday’s race, which was won last year by Wodeton, is Thyme To Go for Annabel & Rob Archibald who finished second to Knightsbridge on debut.
