Extreme Warrior has made a winning return at Caulfield in the Bel Esprit Stakes, in what is likely to be the Rosemont Stud owned colt’s final preparation.
The Extreme Choice progeny have been highly sought after in recent times and Extreme Warrior further enhanced the stallion’s prospects with a win in the listed Bel Esprit Stakes on VOBIS Gold day at Caulfield.
Extreme Warrior was thought of very highly in the Spring, winning the Blue Sapphire Stakes in dominant fashion which led to him starting favourite in the group one Coolmore Stud Stakes won by Home Affairs.
The Mick Price & Michael Kent Jr trained colt sat outside the leader and found enough in the straight to win by ¾ of a length, and Kent Jr was full of praise.
“He’s a brilliant colt. He got very worked up behind the gates and almost half melted so we thought he might be a big fresh and a bit underdone but he was too good in the end,” said Kent Jr.
“He’s a big bull, I saw him in the yard, he’s got a lot of improvement to come. The Goodwood is four weeks away so we’ll probably put a run in between.”
Jockey Jamie Kah echoed the thoughts of the stable and suggested there was more to come.
“There’s plenty of improvement there and the team has been very kind on him. He was probably a trial short so it was really nice to see him hit the line like he did,” said Kah.
“He’s very talented.”
Owned by Rosemont Stud, Extreme Warrior is set to stand at stud in 2022, meaning this preparation could be his last, with the Goodwood perhaps his sole opportunity at winning a group one.
