Team Hawkes have produced expensive yearling purchase Loca to win on debut at Ballarat on Friday.
Loca who was a $900,000 purchase at last years Magic Millions sale on the Gold Coast did not take long to repay some of his price tag with a solid win on debut at Ballarat where the well bred colt did a lot wrong but dug deep to get the cheque.
“I don’t really think it was his forte on the artificial ground. His head was up a bit, his ears were back a bit, probably resented it a bit coming around to the corner,” Wayne Hawkes said on Racing.com.
“He was beaten, simple as that. He dug deep, went to roll in a bit up the straight.
“He got the job done and Dwayne (Dunn) nursed him there. He only won by a small margin, but you only have to win.”
Wayne Hawkes expects the races form to hold-up as we head into the Spring carnival with his colt Loca a $101 chance in the Caulfield Guineas.
