Racing Queensland has abandoned the rescheduled Doomben Cup meeting with continued heavy rain falling in Brisbane.

The meeting at Doomben was called off after heavy rain fell on Saturday morning and the decision was made to transfer the meeting to Wednesday.

However, with 30mm of consistent rain over the past 24 hours, it was decided the Doomben track was too waterlogged to proceed with the meeting following an inspection on Sunday.

The abandonment of Wednesday’s meeting will result in a “Super Saturday” program at Eagle Farm on Saturday with three Group 1 races to be run.

The Group 1 Doomben Cup will be added to the program and will now be run over 2100m, joining the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m) and the Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m).

Also added to the Eagle Farm program on Saturday will be the Group 2 Doomben Roses for three-year-old fillies over 2100m and the Group 3 BTC Sprint (1300m).

Final acceptances for the rescheduled Doomben Cup will be taken at 9am on Tuesday while fresh nominations have been called for the Doomben Roses and BTC Sprint.

Fillies that run in the Doomben Roses will have only seven days before the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) will be run.

To facilitate those races on Saturday, the Brisbane Racing Club has removed the 2200m Benchmark 80 Handicap and the 1600m Benchmark 85 Handicap while the Listed Bill Carter Stakes (1200m) for two-year-old fillies has been rescheduled for Eagle Farm meeting on June 4.

Wednesday’s abandonment has also resulted in the Group 3 Pam O’Neil Stakes (1600m), the Listed Chief De Beers Quality (1110m) and the Darby McCarthy 3YO (1110m) have been rescheduled to the Doomben meeting on July 9.
