Darren Weir’s pre-training operation in central Victoria will shut down on September 9, 2024, following a ruling by the Victorian Racing Tribunal (VRT) on Monday. Weir’s legal representative, Ian Hill, KC, confirmed that Weir is prepared to start his two-year disqualification immediately, with a seven-day stay in place.
Judge John Bowman of the VRT stated, “The order made in relation to Mr Weir will come under operation from seven days from this date on the 9th of September.” Weir will be eligible to reapply for a license after the two-year period.
In a related ruling, former stablehands Jarrod McLean and Tyson Kermond had their bans reduced by 50% due to an error in the initial decision. McLean’s ban was cut to nine months, and Kermond’s to three months.
