Evergreen galloper Danzylum proved age is no barrier on his way to winning consecutive Chester Manifold Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.
The 7year old son of Danzero took his career earnings above $588,000 after fighting off a sustained challenge from more-fancied runner Offenders to take out the $150,000 race, leading for most of the 1400metre journey.
Jockey Luke Currie took Danylum to the front from barrier 9 and found another gear bursting clear over the final 200metres to take the headline race by 2 lengths over Offenders, with Chasm a further head away in third.
Whilst trainer Robbie Griffiths attended the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast, stable representative Don Healy praised Danzylum describing him as a “very strong and very honest horse.†The gelding has had 6 runs the preparation, winning two races and collecting more than $140,000 in prize money.
Meanwhile dual group one winner Scenic Shot returned and ran a solid 7th. Lugging 61.5kg and having to contend with the widest barrier (11), Scenic Shot ran on solidly from the rear of the field after having over a year out from racing.
The West-Australian gelding is expected to continue his campaign in Melbourne en route to the Darley Australian Cup at Flemington on March 12th.
