The Peter Moody stable remains measured in its view of the unbeaten Cute Emily despite the filly landing a betting plunge at Caulfield.
The two-year-old daughter of Choisir, who had won her debut at Stawell, was backed from $6 to $3.80 and led all the way in Saturday’s BMW Hcp (1200m).
Cute Emily held on to win by three-quarters of a length from the Peter Snowden-trained first starter Kuhreihen ($9), who is by Commands and ran on strongly from second last, while General Offer ($6.50) was another two lengths away in third place.
Robert Smerdon’s dual winner Rockshaft was an easing favourite from $2.25 to $2.60 and finished fourth.
Moody’s racing manager Jeff O’Connor said Cute Emily was a progressive filly but that no major plans had been made for her.
“It was just a win at Stawell and this was the right race for her today to give her a test on her home track,” O’Connor said.
“Her gate speed is her biggest asset as she has drawn out twice now, got the lead and controlled the race.
“We are probably going to raise the bar now with her, up in class or up in distance, and see if we can get another run out of her.”
Cute Emily is the 10th foal and only the second city winner from Prefer An Angel who was a Group Two winner of the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Moonee Valley.
She was a $100,000 yearling at the 2010 Magic Millions Winter Sale after earlier changing hands twice for $19,000 and $36,000.
