While nothing has yet been set in stone, industry feedback at this time suggests that overtures by Racing Victoria to move the Cox Plate to late November will not get the green light in 2023.
As far as can be understood, there are influential parties on both sides of the argument.
The latest word from Racing Victoria is that the matter will still be discussed, amongst other items, at an upcoming board meeting.
It is expected that Racing Victoria will then further consult with the metropolitan clubs after that board meeting, with that discussion designed to clear up certain specifics with regard to any changes to the traditional big race schedule.
The movement of the Cox Plate slot is not the only change under that Racing Victoria has placed under consideration.
The Moonee Valley Turf Club, who hosts the Cox Plate, are reportedly waiting on the final proposal from Racing Victoria before deciding on what stance they will take in this matter.
