Chris Waller has responded to the rumours that champion mare Winx could be running her last race in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick tomorrow.
Speaking on RSN927’s Racing Pulse program, Waller said that there was no plans to retire the mare who is have her final run this campaign on Saturday.
“It (retirement) hasn’t even been discussed between the owners and that is 100 per cent factual,” Waller said.
“She is certainly not going to be retired tomorrow. We certainly haven’t spoken about it.”
A decision not to send Winx overseas had punters wondering whether this would be the final campaign for the 6-year-old. Waller put the rumours to bed stating that the decision would now allow Winx to aim at a fourth Cox Plate during the Spring Carnival.
“If tomorrow was going to be her last run (in Australia), she definitely would be going overseas,” he said.
“She probably wouldn’t have run in the Queen Elizabeth. She probably would have went to Dubai and then gone to England after that.”
Winx will be out to match Black Caviar’s famous record of 25 successive wins when she lines up in the Group One Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
