One of Australia’s most talented three-year-olds is bound for Hong Kong with managing owner Suman Hedge on Wednesday confirming the sale of Group 3 winner and two-time Group 1 runner-up Elliptical.
The Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained colt has been the subject of attractive offers since last spring, which only intensified after his first-up win in the Group 3 C S Hayes Stakes.
Hedge said now was the right time for connections to accept an offer he described as ‘compelling’.
“We’ve had so much interest in Elliptical and he’s such a gifted animal that we had to be very considered but, ultimately, the offer was compelling and the owners sell the horse after having a lot of fun and making a decent return,” Hedge said.
A $380,000 buy for Hedge, Anthony Freedman and Blue Sky Bloodstock at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Elliptical heads to Hong Kong with two wins and three minor placings from 10 starts and $1,238,875 in earnings.
The C S Hayes Stakes was the son of Dundeel’s biggest win, while he was also a narrow Group 1 runner-up in both the Caulfield Guineas and Spring Champion Stakes.
“The Freedmans could not have managed this horse any better, he has been trained and placed to perfection and to win a Group 3 and place twice narrowly at Group 1 level is a great effort.”
