Trainer Bjorn Baker is optimistic about the prospects of his team at Randwick this Saturday for The Ingham meeting, offering insight into a trio of key runners during an interview with Sky Sports Radio’s Racing HQ with Dave Stanley.
The stable opens its day with Deal ‘N’ Dash in Race 1, and Baker says the gelding’s first-up effort was encouraging enough. He expects the rise to 1600 metres to suit, particularly if the surface softens further.
‘It was a pass mark first up and the mile at Randwick suits him and if the track at Randwick gets any more demanding, it’ll make it more of a staying test which will suit him. He gets in with a good weight.
He’s a horse who is going to go on to better things over more ground, but I like him Saturday.’
Baker also brings strong staying representation in the Race 7 Christmas Cup with Hollywood Hero, who steps to 2400 metres after a strong performance last start. The trainer is buoyed by the gelding’s ability to relax in his races and his impressive work during the week.
‘You know, he’s had a good grounding for it (2400m) though, he was very good last time. I think one thing about him is he can switch off and he’s got a bit of a turn of foot for a stayer, and he gets in with no weight.
His work on Tuesday was sensational. So, if he runs up to that, can relax and gets through the ground, I think he’s a great chance.’

The yard also saddles Robusto in Race 8, returning to the Group 2 Ingham — a race he won last year at big odds. With a sharp drop in weight and rain potentially arriving, Baker believes the gelding can bounce back.
‘I thought he was OK. I thought he was much better in The Hunter first up. But in saying that he had a lot of weight, he’s going to drop considerably for Saturday, there’s a possibility of a bit of rain around and of course he won the race last year at big odds and a lot of it will be barrier dependent.
So, if he can have some luck from that, he is dropping a heap in weight and maybe last time he wasn’t quite at his best. If he can jump back to his best, he’s a hope.’
