The 2018 ATC Australian Derby winner Levendi has died following complications related to colic.
Peter Gelagotis, who prepared Levendi to five victories from 18 starts and more than $1.7 million in prizemoney, confirmed the stallion’s passing in a tribute posted on social media.
“Horses like this are a miracle to find and we are all very blessed to have had a horse like Levendi in our lives,” Gelagotis posted.
Levendi’s career highlights also included wins in the Carbine Club Stakes and the Tulloch Stakes.
After injury ended his racing career, the son of Pierro began stud duties at Broadmarsh Stud before later relocating to Magnum Park in Tasmania.
Magnum Park confirmed via Facebook that the stallion died on October 18.
Levendi served 43 mares in his debut season at stud in 2021 but covered only 11 mares during the 2024 Australian breeding season.
