Regular jockey Ashley Morgan has been removed from the ride on Private Harry in The Everest.
Ash Morgan who has ridden star sprinter Private Harry for each one of the horses six starts has been told he will not be aboard the horse when he tackles the Premiere Stakes as well as the $20m Everest on October 18th.
Trainer Nathan Doyle has confirmed that champion sprinter Private Harry will have a jockey change ahead of his crucial lead-up to The Everest. Following the gelding’s fifth-place finish in Saturday’s Group 2 The Shorts, Doyle revealed on Sky Sports Radio that new owners Yulong had made the “tough decision” to replace Ash Morgan for the upcoming Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on October 4.
“It’s a Yulong decision to get a second opinion for the Premiere Stakes to see how the horse is progressing,” Doyle said. “With so much money at stake these are the tough decisions that sometimes need to be made. It’s disappointing for Ash but he is still very much a part of our stable.”
Morgan had been unbeaten on Private Harry prior to The Shorts, guiding him to five straight victories including a maiden success at Newcastle last November and the Group 1 Galaxy at Rosehill in March.
No new jockey has yet been confirmed to take the reins for Private Harry’s make-or-break Everest lead-up in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes.
