Hollindale Stakes winner Antino has tightened into clear favourite for the Group 1 Doomben Cup following the barrier draw for Saturday’s weight-for-age feature.
Among 13 final acceptors, Antino firmed from $3.50 into $3 after drawing gate 11, while his biggest rival, Pride Of Jenni, eased to $3.80 after coming up with barrier one.
Antino has been in strong form during the Queensland carnival and will be aiming to add a maiden Group 1 to his record after his dominant Hollindale Stakes performance.
Pride Of Jenni, meanwhile, brings Group 1-winning class into the race but faces the challenge of dictating terms from the inside alley.
Annabel and Rob Archibald will saddle up three runners including last year’s Doomben Cup winner Bois D’Argent, continuing their strong carnival form after Sunshine In Paris’ Group 1 victory in the Doomben 10,000.
Champion trainer Chris Waller is set to mount a four-pronged attack as he eyes a fourth win in the race, with Linderman, Militarize, Kovalica, and Osipenko all set to line up.
Hong Kong-based jockey Matthew Poon will make his presence felt in the feature, taking the ride on Klondike for the John O’Shea and Tom Charlton stable.
