Star Queensland gelding Alligator Blood will not be targeted at this years $15m The Everest after an eye catching return to racing at Doomben.
Alligator Blood who was one of the early favourite for the 2020 Everest will not look for a slot in the race with trainer David Vandyke deciding to instead focus the horses preparation solely on the Golden Eagle.
Vandyke’s stable star returned at Doomben on Saturday where he finished off the race extremely well over 1100m with a big weight which has prompted the decision not to head to the Everest (1200m) with his trainer thinking the extra distance of the Silver Eagle and Golden Eagle will better suit the G1 mile winner.
“So The Everest is off the table and we will now concentrate on the Silver Eagle and Golden Eagle. From a Golden Eagle perspective he couldn’t have run any better.
“I think the horse is better suited over further than 1200m and I think he’s going to be pretty lethal over the 1500m at Rosehill in the Golden Eagle. All our strategy is aimed towards that.” Vandyke told Racing.com
Alligator Blood is the $4.40 favourite with Sportsbet in Golden Eagle odds.
