Aidan O'Brien is contemplating the Cox Plate with star galloper Paddington
Trainer Aidan O’Brien is contemplating a potential bid for the prestigious Cox Plate with his star galloper, Paddington.
After a remarkable display at the Sussex Stakes in Goodwood under challenging conditions, O’Brien expressed his interest in the Cox Plate.
“We will definitely look at it (the International at York) and consider it very seriously,” O’Brien told media at Goodwood.
Despite the tough ground conditions at the Sussex Stakes, Paddington showcased his resilience, leaving O’Brien impressed.
“We will have to see how he comes out of this, we weren’t expecting the ground to be as tough as it was today, but knowing this horse, he could take it with a smile on his face,” the trainer remarked.
Tom Magnier, the principal of Coolmore’s Australian operation, had previously hinted at the possibility of Paddington making his way to Australia.
“Tom mentioned something about Australia but he could go anywhere or do anything.” O’Brien said.
“He can go any trip, I’d imagine โ a mile, a mile and a quarter, he could even go further, I don’t know.”
