Red Cadeaux has been given the go-ahead to travel to Australia for the $6.2 million Melbourne Cup.
The five-year-old’s fine effort in finishing a close third behind Duncan and Jukebox Jury in the Irish Field St Leger tempted connections to bid for the Flemington showpiece on November 1.
The Ed Dunlop-trained Red Cadeaux, who has been allotted 53.5kg in the 3200m handicap, will go into quarantine on Thursday.
“The owner (Ronnie Arculli) is keen to go and so am I, and, provided everything goes well, Red Cadeaux will start his two weeks of quarantine on Thursday,” the Newmarket handler told www.edunlop.com.
“We are all very much looking forward to the trip, and the race should suit the horse.”
