A careless riding suspension will cost Craig Williams the ride on French stayer Dunaden in Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup unless he can win an appeal.
Nash Rawiller is also set to miss his Cup ride on Unusual Suspect with the two leading jockeys suspended at Wednesday’s Bendigo Cup meeting.
Wins in the Caulfield Cup on Southern Speed and the Cox Plate on Pinker Pinker have Williams poised to complete the third leg of a unique treble if he can claim the Cup.
As it stands, both jockeys can ride on Derby Day on Saturday before starting their suspensions which rule them out of the last three days of the Melbourne Cup carnival.
Williams and Rawiller signalled their intentions to appeal with the hearings likely to be held on Monday.
The two were outed for causing interference in separate support races on the Bendigo Cup program.
Williams won the Geelong Cup on Dunaden who is second pick at $7 for the Melbourne Cup behind the $4 favourite and fellow French stayer Americain who won the race last year.
Unusual Suspect is at $31.
