One of the feature races at Doomben this Saturday is The Roses (2000m), the key lead up towards the Queensland Oaks.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for The Roses 2026.
The Roses 2026 Runner Preview:
1. Single Red: Single Red…I think if Grylls had his time over, he would have waited longer to push the button in the Gold Coast Bracelet. IMO he went too early and left the filly a sitting shot for Nightline. I think fitter, up to 2000m and a more patient steer, she can run a much improved race.
2. Paltrow Miss: SCR
3. Soverato: I really like Soverato here. Freshened up since the ATC Oaks where she looked a genuine winning chance 400m out but just didn’t run the Oaks trip out. Much better suited back to 2000m and loved the way she went in a recent tick over trial. Keen.
4. Grand Omaha: Grand Omaha was unbelievable in The Coast. She was horribly weighted, copped a nasty check on the turn but had the hide to keep chasing and finding the line in defeat. She’ll love getting to 2000m and off last run, is right in the mix.
5. Probability Theory: Has done little wrong in two starts/wins this prep but this looks a fraction too hard.
6. Fireball Miss: Good late in the Gold Coast Bracelet and is suited up in trip. Just a matter of where she gets to from the tricky gate.
7. Zuleika: Similar to Fireball Miss. Good late at the Gold Coast and 2000m is fine. The gate is nasty.
8. Boomeroo: SCR
9. Bella Wahine: Didn’t do a bad job in the Gold Coast Bracelet but I have a few others ahead of her.
10. Parvenu: Always have to respect the stable but just not quite sure she is up to these.
11. Chispa: Chispa can book her QLD Oaks start with a win here. Her win last Wednesday on the Kenso was massive given she overcame the track pattern, gave them a start, a beating, and was strong to the line. Has looked an Oaks horse since the debut, keen to see her here, and the big tick for her is J Mac rides.
12. Tarntanya: Looks a filly of some promise but think it’s too soon for her.
13. Shortcut: Was okay late in the Gold Coast Bracelet and maps to settle closer. One for exotics.
14. Crathie Kirk: Flying and in the right camp…just not sold on her measuring up.
15. Erin Jo: Looks up against it.
16. Sunsprite: SCR
17. Our Brave Lini (First Emergency): Strong win at Ipswich last start but isn’t up to these.
18. Gypsy Wish (Second Emergency): SCR

The Roses 2026 Speed Map
Not sure who leads this field up to be honest. Paltrow Miss maybe from the wide gate? Boomeroo could slide forward? If that’s the case on paper, generally something will generate speed. But as of right now, no front end pressure.
