Kiwi mare Melody Belle – triumphant during the recent Melbourne Cup Carnival – has opened an $8 favourite at TAB to win the 2020 Australian Cup at Flemington on Saturday, March 7.
The 10-time Group 1 winner produced a devastating burst to take out the Empire Rose Stakes at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day before returning on November 9 and finishing runner-up to Magic Wand in the Mackinnon Stakes.
Five horses are currently listed at $11 including last year’s Kingston Town Classic winner Arcadia Queen, this year’s Australian Cup odds-on favourite Avilius and Cox Plate runner-up Castelvecchio.
The 2020 Newmarket Handicap also takes place on March 7 with Bivouac, Exceedance and Nature Strip $8 equal favourites at TAB.
Exceedance and Bivouac finished first and second in the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington on November 2 while Nature Strip scorched the turf in the VRC Sprint Classic at Flemington on the final day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Four gallopers share favouritism for the 2020 Australian Guineas at Flemington on February 29 with Alligator Blood, Catalyst, Dalasan and Super Seth $8 at TAB.
Super Seth narrowly defeated Alligator Blood in the Caulfield Guineas on October 12 and both of them went to the spelling paddock after the race.
After finishing fifth in the Caulfield Guineas, Dalasan won the Carbine Club Stakes at Flemington on November 2.
Catalyst is an emerging star, which was evident in his stunning New Zealand 2000 Guineas victory at Riccarton on November 9.
