The first of three Group Races on the Rosehill card is for the Golden Slipper aspirants – the Silver Slipper. A field of thirteen – eight colts/geldings and five fillies take part with all bar three of them having already registered at least one win. It’s $4.40 the field with Charlie Boy holding favouritism in early markets but no less than a further seven runners at or under the $15.00 mark.

Silver Slipper Stakes Form Guide

1. KUROSHIO –      (1)

It wouldn’t be a 2yo race without Darley having a legitimate chance and via this son of Exceed and Excel, they continue the trend. Ran third to the smart Villa Verde and Overreach back in the Spring before returning to racing with a narrow second to Dissident in the BD Preview and digging deep late to win the G3 BD Prelude. From one, he’ll be prominent throughout.

Odds: $6.00

2. WHISKEY ALLROUND – R McMahon (6)

An unbeaten QLD gelding by speed sire All Bar One who hasn’t raced since claiming an Eagle Farm Open by ¾ of a length under the steadier of 59.5kgs. His trainer Tony Gollan knows what it takes to win big races outside of Qld and tuned his charge up for this with a solid 8 ½ length trail win three weeks back.

Odds: $17.00

3. NEVER CAN TELL – P Robl (3)

After winning on debut in October, the son of War Pass was tipped out and returned with an impressive win in the Listed Cannonbury Stakes, defeating Whittington. Firmed from 9/1 to 15/2 last start and it was a tough win. Drawn to get a similar run here from his good draw and represent very good each way value at $6.00.

Odds: $6.00

4. REGITIMENTAL PRIDE – N Berry (4)

He’s had three starts at this track and registered both of wins here. Had every chance last start when settling handy to the leaders in the Canonbury Stakes but couldn’t match it late with Whittington and Never Can Tell. That was his first run for seven weeks so expect some improvement and will get a similar run here but can’t see him making up the beaten margin of four lengths of last start.

Odds: $67.00

5. ALL THE TALK – B Shinn (9)

Started a well backed 13/8 favourite when stepping out in a Warwick Farm Open three weeks back but felt the pinch under 58kgs late, and ran a neck second to Va Pensiero. Awkward draw to contend with here and takes on the 1200m for the first time.

Odds: $10.00

6. CRITERION – Scratched

7. CHARLIE BOY – G Schofield (8)

He was installed a 5/4 favourite when making his debut back on the 17th November last year and the son of first season sire, Myboycharlie, despite being green, didn’t let his supported down and recorded a half length win. Did it on raw ability on debut and expect the three months off since to be to his benefit.

Odds: $4.20

8. CITATIONS –       (7)

Darley’s second runner who had two starts over the Spring for a third in a Randwick Open Class before being taken to Melbourne for the G3 Maribyrnong Plate and as 13/4 favourite, finishing fifth to Direct Charge. Tuned up with a quite trial at Rosehill on the 19th Feb.

Odds: $12.00

9. SWEET IDEA – J Cassidy (2)

Won on debut back in October and has since ran three successive seconds, the latest of which was to Real Surreal in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic on the Gold Coast in January. Will be ridden on the speed from gate two and his form is very hard to fault. Obvious threat.

Odds: $8.00

10. BRILLIANT BISC – J Parr (10)

Made is debut in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes back in October and defied his odds of 40/1 to lead all the way and in the process, accounting for Guelph and Shahad. The well bred son of Elvstroem out of smart mare Stella Cadente resumed in the Listed Widden Stakes but was no match for the ultra impressive Overreach and finished a well beaten third.

Odds: $13.00

11. ROMANTIC MOON – J McDonald (13)

First of the fillies, this one by More Than Ready who on debut back December, recorded a comfortable three length win over four competitors in a Gosford Maiden. That was purely educational purposes by Trainer John O’Shea who has a good opinion of this filly and is gauging that opinion here in a smart race.

Odds: $13.00

12. THUMP –       (11)

Patinack Farm runner who closed well from well back on debut in a Listed race at Flemington over the carnival and resumed in the Widden Stakes. Got back on resumption from her wider draw and never figured, finishing seventh and over a dozen length from winner Overreach. It would be some king of form turn-around.

Odds: $51.00

13. SHAHAD – (5)

Well bred daughter of Fastnet Rock from the Waterhouse yard who, at her only start in the Gimcrack Stakes back in October, showed enough to anticipate her return to racing here. She ran third in the Gimcrack, closing well and has been readied for her return here with two solid barrier trails. Drawn well and be a Waterhouse runner, will hold a prominent spot.

Odds: $17.00

OVERVIEW

Good race! Has a lot of raw ability does the favourite Charlie Boy and over the break, if he has learnt to put it together and the $4.60 is the right price. No reason why Never Can Tell who was tough when winning first up and drawn well here and can’t give his supporters a big show at the $6.00. Likewise, Sweet Idea whose form can not be faulted is also a good price for each-way punters at $8.00. Best roughie in the race – Criterion.
