The feature race at Eagle Farm this Saturday is the Queensland Derby (2400m), where South Australian Derby runner up Statuario has been well tried in early betting.

2025 Queensland Derby Runner Preview:
1. Firm Agreement: He looks a tired horse. Wet track was far from ideal in the Rough Habit but he was never really a factor and whilst Nash is on, 2400m suits, I think he’s looking for the paddock.
2. Imperialist: Been a big fan of him since day one and the one time I drop off, he bolts up at nearlt $101. No fluke I don’t think about the Rough Habit. Blinkers went on, ridden with intent and he bolted up. I think with a similar ride, he can win this.
3. Statuario: The more I watch the replay of the SA Derby, the more disgusted I get with the ride from J Allen on Statuario. It should have bolted in but he gave it none by coming wide, conceding ground, and in turn, the eventual winner Femminile got the run Statuario had. He’ll eat up 2400m, he has quality about him…like him a lot.
4. King Of Thunder: Was keen on him in the Rough Habit but I just think being six weeks between runs on testing ground, condition gave way late. Better for the run and his runs during the Sydney Autumn were quite good. One of the leading contenders.
5. Beau Dazzler: He was a real eye catcher first up in the QLD Guineas but found them a tad sharp in the Rough Habit. 2400m should be fine, set for the race…he can be included in exotics.
6. Lavalier: Lavalier will have no issue with the 2400m. He tried his guts out in the SA Derby but just lacked the change up speed and finale to get the job done when third to Femminile. Truly run 2400m is ideal for him and can settle near the speed. One of the leading contenders.
7. Politely Dun: Gave them a start and a beating to win at Flemington two weeks ago but just not sure he is at this level to measure up.
8. Deep Focus: He closed off with purpose in the Rough Habit and it would be a great story if he won, but just not sure he can repeat that performance, never mind improve.
9. Our Benefactor: Did early work to land on speed in the Rough Habit and ground to the line, having his chance. Nice horse, but not sure at him at 2400m.
10. Maison Louis: Far from disgraced in the Rough Habit and he was a few weeks between runs, so he has improvement to come, but not sure he has the quality.
11. Scintillate: I reckon he was the eye catcher of those in behind in the SA Derby. His late splits were pretty good and will have no issue with 2400m here, and IMO the SA Derby is the right form reference.
12. Saint Emilion: SCR
13. Party Crasher: He is the left field horse. Been too good for the older horses in SA, and has been well placed against plodders, but he has been impressive, and gives every indication of being fine at 2400m. Not dismissing him.
14. Rogan: I thought there was a bit of quality about his win at Caulfield last time, the way he gave them a start and a beating, clocking great late splits to score. He’ll eat up 2400m, be strong late…just needs a drag into the race.
15. Existential Bob: Lot of arrogance about his win at Ipswich last week, sitting on speed before being clicked up and away he went to win and win well. Waller polish, 2400m should be fine, he’s in the mix for exotics.
16. Femminile: She did win the SA Derby but I will say she was given a 12/10 by Neindorf and there were bad rides in behind, so for mine, she was flattered. It is the right form race for this IMO, but of those from that race here, I am against her.
17. Belle Detelle: I think she was a total forgive in The Roses. Ridden like a barrier trial, got back and did make up headway in a solid effort. Waller in a Grand Final, can’t ignore her.
18. Chase Your Dreams: The trip is no issue. Class is her issue.
19. Eclair Encore (First Emergency): SCR
20. The Muffian Man (Second Emergency): He was unbelievable in the Rogan race at Caulfield, where he was three and four wide throughout, only tiring late. If he gets a run, he’s a sneaky chance.
21. Liberty Park (Third Emergency): SCR
22. Prince Levi (Fourth Emergency): SCR
23. San Jose Boy (Fifth Emergency): SCR

I can’t see much early pressure here. Existential Bob looks the leader if they roll the dice. Lavalier and Party Crasher will look to settle handy, while the one paced Saint Emilion will likely settle forward with Tim Clark aboard.
