Punters are keen to take on Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist in the Peter Young Stakes this weekend at Caufield. Despite his dominant win in the Cup the race favourite has eased from his opening price of $4.20 to $4.40 after being backed into $3.90 at one stage.

The 1800m at Caufield first up is the obvious concerns of punters but could he be simply too good for them? Mourinho and Happy Trails fans certainly hope not.
Mourinho has been the best backed runner in the race and is $7.50 into $6.50 with online bookmaker Sportsbet. He won well first up in the Australia Stakes before being safely held by Dissident in the Orr Stakes and punters believe he can improve with the step up to 1800m.
Happy Trails was caught wide in a slowly run race and probably found the 1400m first up a tad short in the Orr. He generally runs well second up and we know for certain the 1800m will suit. He doesn’t win out of turn but punters think he will run well here and he is $5.50 into $5.00.
Spillway has also been a drifter in the market easing to $8.00 after opening at $7.00
