The first Group 1 of Melbourne’s Festival of Racing takes place on Saturday and Kementari is the $3.30 favourite with TAB to win the C.F. Orr Stakes at Caulfield.
Kementari has eased slightly though from $3 after the field was finalised, but the James Cummings-trained horse will be desperate to end a run of near misses since winning last year’s Randwick Guineas almost 12 months ago.
“Even though Kementari wasn’t victorious last preparation, he finished in the first four at five of his six runs – four of those at Group 1 level ranging from 1200 to 1600 metres – so his consistency is a strong reason why he has opened TAB Fixed Odds favourite,” TAB’s Trent Langskaill said.
“There are plenty of rivals for Kementari to contend with in the C.F. Orr Stakes including last spring’s Toorak Handicap winner Land Of Plenty, currently $5 second elect with TAB, and Whispering Brook ($6.50) who won the Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley on the night before Australia Day.”
The main firmer in early betting has been Brave Smash who has shortened from $21 to $9.50 with 50 percent of the current win hold with TAB.
This race will have a huge bearing on the All-Star Mile at Flemington on March 16 with 12 of the 15 runners in the C.F. Orr Stakes nominated for the world’s richest mile race.
Aside from the C.F. Orr Stakes, another highlight will be the Blue Diamond Preludes and presently, I Am Immortal is the $2.80 TAB Fixed Odds favourite for the colts and geldings (Race 5) while Catch Me is the $2.90 TAB Fixed Odds favourite for the fillies (Race 6).
