Comment: There is a long, long tail to this race, and IMO only four winning hopes: Black Star Bowie, Hallberg, Omaka and Phylave. The fav is Black Star Bowie but he looked to have every chance in a weak Maiden/Class One at Mudgee and off that run, 2200m has to be a question mark never mind the form, so $1.60 for him is poison for him and I think he could easily get to $2.50+. While that form looks inferior IMO, the run of Hallberg in the same race was enormous. If you like that form line, much rather back Hallberg at $8+. Phylave is a 33 start maiden that had a lighweight at Newcastle and worked home well, but now rises in weight again with a senior jock back on, so I think is short enough. That’s why I’m keen on Omaka at the odds. He had a month off and was coming back in trip when racing over the mile at Wyong last start and I loved the way he was working through his gears until he had to be eased down late due to no room. On breeding, should love the rise in trip and $7.50 looks great value, along with $1.90 to run top three.
