The major 2YO race for the males leading into next week’s $2million Magic Millions Classic over 1200m, tossed up a game winner in FINANCE TYCOON (Written Tycoon-Darook Park) at the Gold Coast over 1100m today.
Trained in Victoria by Tom Dabernig and Ben Hayes, the colt had previously won the 1000m Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington and he did best in a stirring drive to the wire today beating the highly touted SHAQUERO (Shalaa-Fimatino) with a huge gap to JACKSON ON TIME (Sebring-Fastnet Heart) back in 3rd.
“He’s just a really game horse,” said Hayes. “And he will improve. We rated him only 80% fit for today but because he is such an ultimate performer, we knew he’d put in.”
The Victorian had been training and jumping out the Qld direction, at Corowa racecourse in recent weeks to get him ready for this.
“And there were no problems. He seemed to relish racing this way.”
Finance Tycoon cost $150,000 as a yearling.
He now comes into contention for next week’s big 2YO as he came home his last 600m faster than the very, very impressive winner of the fillies division in Swift Witness.
The boys, overall, however ran a full six lengths slower.
Chris Waller would have been pleased with the way his former boomed juvenile Shaquero ran today.
After winning the Breeders’ Plate at Randwick he was made fav for the Magic Millions Classic but lost admireres with a poor effort when resuming last start.
Finance Tycoon is now a $9 chance with Sportsbet in Magic Millions Classic betting after shortening from $21 prior to his win.
She’s All Class remains the rock solid favourite for the $2m feature for the two-year-olds after her form was franked when Swift Witness won the Gold Pearl impressively.
