The feature race at Doomben this Saturday is the Doomben 10,000 (1200m), where Jimmysstar is a clear favourite.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for 2026 Doomben 10,000.
2026 Doomben 10,000 Runner Preview:
1. Jimmysstar: Very interested in Jimmysstar. He last ran in the All Aged where he ran out of his skin given the race pattern behind Beiwacht. 1200m is on the short side, not sure Doomben will suit but class is going to carry him a long way.
2. Private Eye: SCR
3. Another Wil: Trial/Jumpout work says he has returned in beast mode…but the gate turns me right off him. He’d be close to top pick with a good gate.
4. Rothfire: Why is he running? He is cast.
5. Uncommon James: He’ll be much better on a firmer deck vs the bog in the Victory but even still, he’s similar to Rothfire.
6. Reserve Bank: Pass mark in the Victory Stakes but the gate pretty much seals his fate.
7. Private Harry: Looked the winner when presented but when asked for the effort, he found nothing. He’s in trouble.
8. Warnie: Warnie looks to be ticking along nicely. He resumed two weeks back in the Victory Stakes and worked home with purpose against the pattern behind Splash Back. Likely will spot them a start again but will motor late and a win wouldn’t shock.
9. Zarastro: Zarastro was scratched from the Victory Stakes due to the wet track and should find a firmer surface for his return here. His last run saw him finish midfield in the Liverpool Cup at Randwick when far from disgraced. Looks to have trialled up very well, lands on speed and takes running down.
10. Payline: He’s a milk drinker. Gate means he’ll likely get back to last and spot them too much head start.
11. Devil Night: SCR
12. Grafterburners: He is a good horse, but for me, the weather and track rating determines his chances. Dry track, right in the mix. Wet track, he’ll struggle. That is what I am putting the trial down to. It was a soft track and he wasn’t as sharp.
13. Skybird: Talented when right but I don’t think she’s anywhere near right.
14. Lady Of Camelot: SCR
15. Abounding: SCR
16. Spicy Martini: Don’t think she’s up to these.
17. Beadman (First Emergency): Gritty win last week in the Gold Coast Guineas but got the 12/10 from J Mac and it wasn’t a deep race. Happy to oppose.
18. Napoleonic (Second Emergency): I’ve been on Napoleonic for a few weeks and won’t be dropping off. He has been kept on ice, and this is purely chips in to get the Group l hence why he has been freshened up, trialled super and gets J Mac aboard. I don’t think he runs 1400m so 1200m here, will press forward, clear intent, he’ll get every chance to break the Group l tag.
19. Esjay (Third Emergency): Flying but not at this level.
2026 Doomben 10,000 $100 Betting Strategy:
$100 Win Napoleonic @ $4.50
Group l Strategy Outlay: $6700
Group l Strategy Return: $4927

2026 Doomben 10,000 Speed Map
Plenty of speed engaged here to my eye. The likes of Rothfire and Uncommon James will want to press forward, likewise Private Harry, while Zarastro could be ridden with clear intent to lead. The tempo should be more than genuine.
