Forbidden Love is the current favourite for the Doncaster Mile

The best mile race in Australia is the Doncaster Mile (1600m) and the 2022 edition at Randwick this Saturday shapes up to be a beauty, where favourite is the very much in form mare Forbidden Love.

Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2022 Doncaster Mile.

2022 Doncaster Mile Speed Map

This looks a pretty simple map with Ellsberg getting total control. Forbidden Love should have little trouble getting across while Mr Brightsode is another that could press forward and not spend too many petrol tickets. Converge could lob into a lovely spot from the gate.

2022 Doncaster Mile Runner Preview

1. Cascadian: Gee he should have gone close to placing in the All Star Mile. He had no luck in the straight and was half slaughtered by Ollie. He won the race last year and I think is racing well enough to sneak a first four spot.

2. I’m Thunderstruck: I’m Thunderstruck looks cherry ripe for this. The race shape was against him in the All Star Mile but what a race he ran in defeat behind a star in Zaaki. He’s been set for this race for some time, he swims, he has dodged the heavy tracks and should be strong at the end.

3. Private Eye: Private Eye is another that has been set for this race and he’s looking spot on. I thought he should have been right in the finish of the George Ryder but had no luck at the top of the straight, but was good late when clear. Proven Randwick mile winner and loves getting his toe in.

4. Dalasan: Fab track/distance record and ran well in this race last year. I think he’s had excuses in both runs back from a spell. Lobs into a lovely spot from the draw and is another I’ll be having in a wider first four.

5. Lighthouse: She has done a ripping job since arriving from America. Dominant win in the Coolmore Classic but the two knocks with her are the wide gate and the fact there is an injury cloud surrounding her.

6. Laws Of Indices: He’s getting better with racing. D Day in the George Ryder and he ran a beauty when third to Forbidden Love. He’d almost be top pick if this track was firm. Just not sold on him on wet ground.

7. Ellsberg: He looks the sole leader and he’s a horse who races best when leading and controlling. Just pipped by Just Folk in the Ajax. He’ll lead and give a stack of cheek.

8. Inspirational Girl: She’ll need some Pike magic from the wide gate. Strong win of the Blamey but I thought her All Star Mile effort was plain. Does she need juice in the track? Potentially. Her best can threaten.

9. Hungry Heart: Reckon this run will top her off beautifully for either the Coolmore Legacy or Queen Elizabeth. Hasn’t raced since the Apollo when good late behind Think it Over. Wants a firmer deck compared to recent weeks, and she does have class when she gets conditions to suit.

10. Icebath: Wide no cover in the All Star Mile and actually wasn’t too bad in defeat given the run she had. Loves the mile, loves wet ground and can bounce back for sure at a good price.

11. Sky Lab: Just a fair run last Saturday and back to a mile I see as a negative, plus I don’t think she’s up to this level.

12. Kissonallforcheeks: They have to run her on wet ground eventually and why not here down in the weights. Her Flemington win was outstanding and if this track was nine dry, she’d be a clear winning threat. Just can’t quite entertain her on wet ground.

13. Numerian: Resumed in the Mugatoo and was good in defeat behind Gentleman Roy given the race shape. He’ll win races I’m sure. Just doubt it’s here.

14. Hilal: Forgiving of the George Ryder effort. He saves his best for Randwick. He won’t disgrace himself, but doubt he can threaten.

15. Brutality: Warmed to the task nicely in the Prelude on Monday. He loves the back up and gets the Blinkers back on so I think he’s right in the mix and is a must for exotics.

16. Forbidden Love: Forbidden Love commands respect on current form. On one hand, you can say she has been gifted her three wins due to just lobbing into the dream spot. But, she still has had to take advantage and that she has, as well as taking advantage of the wet tracks. 50kg with J Kah on, she clearly appeals.

17. Just Folk: Just Folk eats mud for breakfast so 50kg on a bottomless track…wouldn’t be shocked at all if he won. He lapped up the conditions to win the Ajax last time out to secure his spot in this race, without a penalty. Trialled well behind Eduardo and I think he’ll only run well in these conditions.

18. Kiku: Loved the way she found the line in the Emancipation on Monday, just missing out on the win. She’d be an ideal Coolmore Legacy horse, but down in the weights here, she’s earned a crack.

19. Mr Brightside: He ran a beauty in the All Star Mile after a tardy start. Clean get away here, I think he can land on speed and down in the weights, he’s in with a shout to run an honest race.

20. Converge: Back to the mile I do like for him. Didn’t run 2000m in the Rosehill Guineas but this looks a much better set up. Right down in the weights, sits off the speed and should be strong late.

21. Bankers Choice (First Emergency): Thought his finale had merit in the George Ryder. Not sure he’s up to this level but he won’t disgrace himself.

22. King Magnus (Second Emergency): Not racing as well as he was in the Spring. Shocked if he won.

23. Ironclad (Third Emergency): Returned to form with a win in the Matrice at Morphettville but he’s hopeless on wet ground.

24. Our Playboy (Fourth Emergency): He would go in everything if he got a start but being fourth emergency, doubt he gets a run.
