Well-travelled mare Galizani gained a valuable stakes win in her home town when she took out Saturday’s Listed Epona Stakes at Rosehill.
Raced by Nathan Tinkler’s Patinack Farm and trained by John Thompson, Galizani began her career with barrier trials in Sydney and Queensland before getting to the races in Victoria where she won two races.
She returned home and struck paydirt at her third start this campaign when she overpowered Vivid Vixen to win by 1-3/4 lengths to win the 1900m race.
Jimmy Cassidy was aboard the mare who is bred for long distances being by Galileo out of Zabeel mare Zahani.
“She was always going to get the trip and her runs this preparation have been great,” Cassidy said.
“It’s a good result for Nathan and John and a good result for me.
“They have given me the opportunity to ride for them and it’s good to repay them.”
Thompson, who oversees Patinack stables in four states, was in Melbourne on Saturday.
Race favourite Rubinacci ($4.60) made the trip from Melbourne but weakened to 10th after being on the pace to the turn.
