Fresh off his achievement of recording his 500th winner (Tycoon Artie at Wagga on Tuesday), John Kissick took some time to answer our Quick Questions…
What is your first racing memory?
As an eight-year-old kid a trainer took me to Cessnock races and Greg Ryan signed my race book; I have been hooked ever since!
Who is your favourite horse and why?
Grand Armee with Danny Beasley aboard, I just loved watching him; his racing style was exciting.
Who is the best horse you have ridden?
Shoot Out, I rode him in trackwork a few times.
And the best horse you have seen?
Has to be Black Caviar and Winx, I can’t split them.
What do you think your best ride was?
Best ride was probably the Corowa Cup on Devised, we went from last to first right up the rails.
And one where you didn’t get it quite right?!
A horse called Riva de Lago at Randwick, I rode for inside runs, the horse should’ve bolted in β punters weren’t happy!
What’s the worst spray you’ve had from a trainer?
Rode a horse in Grenfell Cup for Rado Boljun. It was hot favourite and somehow I got caught three deep in a four-horse race and went down a head. Rado let me know he wasn’t happy haha!
Who do you admire most in racing?
I admire Matthew Cahill, heβs such a brilliant jockey and heβs also an incredibly humble and nice human being.
What is one change/improvement you’d love to see in racing?
More support and better conditions available for stable staff/strappers.
What’s the funniest moment you’ve experienced in racing?
Probably watching one of my old bosses (wonβt name who) accidentally driving to the races with the tailgate of the truck down and horses in full view!
What is your favourite pastime outside of racing?
Don’t mind a BBQ with friends and a few drinks.
What is your favourite movie?
Any of the Hangover movies.
What slogan summarises your outlook on life?
If you canβt change it, don’t worry about it.
Favourite food?
Veal schnitzel with gravy.

Moonee Valley.
If you weren’t a jockey what would you be doing?
A trainer.
