The iconic Warrnambool Carnival concludes on Thursday, headlined by the Grand Annual (5500m). Weather is fine, track is soft (7) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:15) John Rule Champion Nov Hrdl 3200m
5 Loft (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks a promising jumper and with good improvement from the first up win, he’s the one they have to beat. He resumed with a maiden Hurdle win at this track/distance where he wasn’t exactly 100% with his jumping, but his flat speed was too much. Upside/improvement to come, he’s the one they have to beat, and clearly.
6 Road Runner (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a former Kiwi who made his Aussie debut at Pakenham in a Hurdle. He attempted to lead throughout and gave a strong kick from the front but just couldn’t quite see it through, run down late. Better for the run, he’ll acquit himself nicely.
3 Vadarchie (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is in with a shout. Not sure he beat much in a Maiden Hurdle at Pakenham last time but the manner in which he put them away was quite impressive. Good test here against likely types but think he can measure up.
Race 2. (11:45) The Standard Super Vobis 3Yo (Bm70) 1400m
2 King Of Enterprise (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a progressive three year old for Busuttin/Young that was a strong winner at Pakenham last time, getting better as the race went on, knuckling down with purpose late to score. Good upside/improvement to come, he’s one of the hardest to beat.
5 From A Distance (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes here for Symon Wilde off the back of a debut maiden win at Donald where he gave them a start and a beating, knuckling down with purpose late to score. The rise to 1400m is fine and despite the tricky gate, he is a leading contender.
10 Colour Our World (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a daughter of Blue Point that resumes for Matty Williams. This girl is first up, having not raced since Jan 11 at Flemington when racing over 2000m and was far from disgraced in defeat behind Thedoctoroflove. Trial/jumpout work has been strong and first up here, you’d think she’s ready to go.
Race 3. (12:15) Tab We're On (Bm78) 1100m
2 Cleo Cat (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a beauty for Tom Dabernig that resumes and I am confident she can resume a winner. She hasn’t raced since Jan 6 at Geelong when far from disgraced in defeat in the Black Pearl. She flies fresh, she is a short course type and has looked electric in trial/jumpout work.
4 Rivkin (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Patrick Ryan trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since Dec 14 at Caulfield Heath when doing too much work to land on speed and tired late behind Thailess. Given a good break and has jumped out well, plus gets B Shinn to steer.
6 Mansiere (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is first up for Nick Ryan and is capable. He hasn’t been seen since Oct 16 at Caulfield when far from disgraced in defeat behind a potential star in Nadal, a form line which clearly reads well. Jumpout work has been strong and she likes wet ground.
Race 4. (12:45) Catanach's Jewellers (Bm70) 1400m
4 Pink Chandon (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the way I am going. Glen Thompson trained mare that is several weeks between runs since racing over the mile at Caulfield when back in the run and couldn’t really get involved when dwon the track behind Grey Ice. She doesn’t have the best of winning records but I will say this is one of the weaker races she has contested.
3 Matrooshi (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has returned well for Symon Wilde and is one of the hardest to beat. She resumed over 1100m at Warracknabeal. She sat on speed throughout and credit to her, she was there to be beaten but she found under pressure to fend them off. Like her up in trip and gets B Shinn.
15 Charities (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is in the mix for Matty Williams. She ran over 1400m on Terang Cup Day when off speed and kept finding the line in defeat behind Salsbury Hill. Home track, likes wet ground, she is in the mix as a threat.
Race 5. (13:15) Warrnambool Surf Lifesaving Club (Bm64) 2000m
7 She’s A Con (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ech way for me. Paul Preusker trained mare that ran over 2100m on Good Friday in the Country Oaks when back off the speed and while she was never threatening, she kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat behind Alma Rise. No horse of that quality here, she takes beating.
5 Morrissette (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is in a real purple patch at the moment for Reece Goodwin and commands respect. She ran over the mile at Sandown last time where she got the beaut run in transit and was there to put the race away, but just lacked the class to finish the job and was nabbed late by Half Yours. That was her first run in two months so upside/improvement to come, she takes beating.
3 Dartboard (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) steps up to 2000m after a win over the mile at Swan Hill where he gave them a start and a beating, getting better as the race went on to win and win well. He’s racing like 2000m suits and maps to do no work in the run.
Race 6. (13:50) Neville Wilson Series Final (Bm70) 1700m
4 El James (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the one to beat. He resumed in the Warracknabeal Cup where he did early work in the run to land on speed and was there to win but he couldn’t quite see it through, just feeling the pinch late when third to Angry Skies. Fitter and up in trip, he takes beating.
3 Notabadbuy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a GaiBott trained gelding that is knocking on the door. Just ran out of puff late fresh at Ballarat before going to Sandown when leading and giving a strong kick but couldn’t quite get there when second to Liberami. Front end control, he takes beating.
7 Tommy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes back to the 1700m for Team McEvoy after racing over 2000m at Benalla. He was first up and near the speed but condition just gave way late in the piece behind Cable Dancer. Back in trip I find interesting but his best is good enough to be a threat.
Race 7. (14:30) Grand Annual Stpl 5500m
I’m all in on 1 Berry The Cash (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) to win here despite the rider. She looked drunk on the horse at stages on Tuseday in the Brierly but despite that, he looked the winner before the last jump, but I reckon fitness beat him. That should bring him right on for this and he’ll eat up 5500m. Keen.
5 Duke Of Bedford (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has to be a query at the 5500m, but you can’t ignore what he did in the Brierly on Tuesday. He got better as the race went on, leading most of the way and was strong to/through the line, suggesting a rise in trip is okay and witn his racing style, he’ll give himself every chance.
2 Count Zero (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) won this race last year and is back to defend his title. He’s had a couple of flat runs this time in and has just used them as a fitness base. Jumps trials have been strong to my eye and he has the runs on the board to say he’s in the mix.
Race 8. (15:15) Kia Hcp 1400m
1 Magnaspin (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the best horse in the race and I’ll bank on that getting him home. He resumes for the Corstens/Larkin camp, having not raced since Dec 28 over 2040m at The Valley when racing like a tired horse, end of prep run, behind Banker’s Choice. Jumpout work has been good, he likes wet ground and will be strong late.
9 Ocean Beyond (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door. Dan Bowman trained gelding that ran over 1400m at Flemington on Anzac Day and kept finding the line in defeat behind a future Group l winner I think in King Zephyr. Gets right down in the weights, wet ground is fine, hard to beat.
8 Maracourt (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Murray Bridge Cup winner that resumed over 1400m at Oakbank and didn’t fire a shot, perhaps not handling the track, behind Rubamos. He is a horse who won’t mind give in the track, good upside to come and his best is good enough.
Race 9. (15:55) Warrnambool Cup 2350m
3 Virtuous Circle (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) might want one more but I think he has the class to be dangerous. He resumed at Randwick over 2000m behind Alalcance where he was back near last in the run and was never a factor on a day where up/in was dynamite. His best is clearly good enough and he’ll be strong late.
13 Ziryab (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a slight query on this surface but it’s hard to knock how he is racing given he led throughout to spank them in the Terang Cup last time, giving none of his rivals a look in from the front end. Good racing style and I don’t think the trip will be an issue.
8 Mission Of Love (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes through the Immediacy race from Mornington. She got back off the tempo and in a race dominated on speed, she was never really a factor. I do like her up in trip, more genuine tempo, wet track, she’s a knockout hope.
Race 10. (16:30) Grand Events Hire & Styling (Bm64) 1300m
12 Verbosity (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps in the get out. Andrew Bobbin trained gelding that ran over 1300m at Swan Hill last time when off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a good effort in defeat behind Artpark. Good speed in front, he’ll sit off it and be strong late.
14 Lowlands (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Ciaron Maher. She ran over 1200m at Pakenham last start where she got into a decent spot in transit and she tried hard but just couldn’t quite get there when second to Unconquerable. Tricky gate, but you’d think she’s been set for this Carnival.
7 Zilzie Lad (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Peter Gelagotis trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Sep 12 here, racing over 2000m on a heavy deck and he couldn’t pick his feet up. Not a noted fresh horse but has jumped out well and be strong late.
