Cavalry Girl’s performance at Flemington on Saturday will be crucial in determining whether she earns a spot in the Golden Slipper or stays in Melbourne.
Currently 22nd in the Golden Slipper order of entry, a win at Headquarters would guarantee her a spot in the race at Rosehill on March 22.
Syndicate manager Joe O’Neill confirmed the Prime Thoroughbreds-owned filly has recovered from a recent cold that kept her out of the Inglis Millennium at Randwick.
“By the weekend she was fine. She had a bit of mucus. We left her up there for a little bit before we took her back home,” O’Neill explained of the Tom Dabernig-trained filly.
Cavalry Girl impressed in a recent Warrnambool jumpout, and O’Neill believes she’ll be tough to beat if she shows her usual form.
“If she can win, we’d have a look at the Golden Slipper Stakes, otherwise, she will stay at home and contest the St Albans Stakes at The Valley on the same day,” he added.
