New Zealand sprinting sensation Imperatriz is set to remain in Victoria, forgoing opportunities to run in the high-profile $20m The Everest at Randwick on October 14.
After an impressive win at the Group 2 McEwen Stakes at Moonee Valley, her team declined multiple offers from Everest slot holders.
Instead, she’ll compete in the Group 1 Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley later this month.
Her handlers feel that the Everest offers don’t adequately represent her talent and have chosen to keep her local.
The end goal for this racing season is the $3 million Group 1 Champions Sprint at Flemington.
Imperatriz is heavily favored in upcoming Moonee Valley races, and while her current jockey has been successful, a change could be in the cards with Opie Bosson likely to step in.
The decision aligns with what her team feels is the best course for the multiple Group 1 winner.
