Race 1. (11:43) Mittys (Bm90) Hcp 1800m
17 Cavalry Man (Bet Now: $2.90) should have won two weeks ago at Doomben. Childs zigged when he should have zagged and it cost the horse the win I thought when fourth to Express Payment. He got badly held up. He’ll love 1800m at Eagle Farm and with room to move, he’ll take beating.
4 Rotagilla (Bet Now: $3.70) found the track too wet at Randwick a fortnight back. He looked to be going nicely but when asked for the effort, the wheels span and he was never a factor. Firmer deck here, he’s dangerous.
8 Speycaster (Bet Now: $71.00) is a horse I have eyes on for races like the Ipswich/Caloundra/Grafton Cups. First run for Todd Pollard came two weeks back at Doomben and while he was never threatening, he was sneaky good late the way he kept chasing and finding the line. Fitter and up in trip, he’s a knockout hope.
Race 2. (12:18) Place Ascot (Bm85) Hcp 1200m
15 Surprise Honey (Bet Now: $6.50) is third up from a spell and should be at peak fitness. She ran fifth at Doomben two weeks ago, landing just off speed and looked to be trucking but when asked for the effort, she just whacked late. Senior rider on now, it’s go time IMO.
9 Now Is The Hour (Bet Now: $2.35) was a horse I dare say the stable would have liked to be a Stradbroke horse for them but he just didn’t quite start the prep on the right note. That said, he ran well behind Arabian Rose last time, closing well from off speed when second. Hard fit, can press forward, leading chance.
14 She’s Exotic (Bet Now: $27.00) is a short course type so for mine she looks suited at 1000m vs 1200m but with a soft trip, could pinch first four. She ran over 1110m in the Bright Shadow last time, looking for some blacktype, and tried hard, but class told late. One for wider exotics.
Race 3. (12:53) Moreton Hire Lightning Hcp 1000m
4 Steady Ready (Bet Now: $4.80) is several weeks between runs since resuming in the Bat Out Of Hell at the Gold Coast. He landed on speed and fought hard in the straight but condition just blew out late behind Flying Destiny. Short course specialist, he appeals here.
7 Sunrise (Bet Now: $17.00) is in the mix for the Beer/Carpenter camp after an impressive win at the Gold Coast when just off the pace before being angled into clear and let down with real purpose when asked to win and win well, running time. Keen to see how she goes.
3 Golden Boom (Bet Now: $19.00) comes back to 1000m after racing over 1110m two weeks back in the Chief De Beers where he led, copped heat and didn’t like it, dropping out badly late. 1000m is his go, and his best is clearly good enough to threaten.
Race 4. (13:28) The Show A Heart 1500m
13 Voynichese (Bet Now: $17.00) jumps straight to 1500m but she looks a nice filly on the up for Nick Olive. Three/four wide the trip over 1175m at Albury last time but class kicked in and she was far too good for her rivals. Good test here but confident she can measure up.
9 Shintono (Bet Now: $3.50) was pretty good in the Bill Carter two weeks ago at Doomben. She landed on speed and did a bit wrong in the straight but kept on and kept chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat behind I Am Dirty, who ran well last week in the Sires. Form reads well and she looks suited at 1500m.
6 Glenorchy (Bet Now: $2.40) should appreciate getting to 1500m. He debuted over 1200m at Randwick two weeks ago where he did find the track testing but stayed on and was far from disgraced behind Friendly Fire. Like the rise to 1500m and Waller has used this race as a JJ Atkins formula previously.
Race 5. (14:03) Queensland Day Stakes 1200m
16 Chains Of Love (Bet Now: $7.50) looks a rocket for Messara/Gavranich. Not sure what she beat when a first up winner during the Scone Carnival but the manner in which she put them away and how dominant she was…she’s bred to be pretty good and off the return, she might well be.
1 Earn To Burn (Bet Now: $8.50) should be fine at 1200m after a win over 1110m in the Darby McCarthy when giving them a start and a beating to win and win well. Bit of depth to this field but hard to knock the way he’s racing and is hard fit.
7 Foreign Press (Bet Now: $12.00) tried hard in the Darby McCarthy. She got into a good spot in transit just off speed and was there to win I thought but had no answers for the finale of Earn To Burn. Fitter and up in trip, she’s in the mix.
Race 6. (14:38) Magic Millions National Classic 1600m
14 Margot’s Deel (Bet Now: $23.00) is flying IMO. Just has no early speed and leaves herself with too much to do, as seen behind Pinito at Doomben. She made up good ground but was never threatening. She can launch late. Just depends what start she concedes, and hopefully with Willow from the draw, she can settle much closer.
I think class just about gets 2 Pinito (Bet Now: $5.00) home. It got her home two weeks ago at Doomben, driving hard from off speed and pretty much lifted over the line by J Mac. She gave them weight there. Now she’s at WFA…gee she looks well placed.
10 Pippie Beach (Bet Now: $18.00) closed with real purpose at Doomben behind Pinito. She got off speed and was held up at times but loved the way she chased and found the line. If within range, she has the finale to be dangerous.
Race 7. (15:13) Sky Racing Spear Chief Hcp 1500m
5 Harry’s Yacht (Bet Now: $4.80) has returned super and is a leading contender here. He comes through the BRC Sprint where he tried hard from the back, charging late when a close up third to Abounding. He should appreciate 1500m and be strong late.
12 King Zephyr… (Bet Now: $2.90) it is contender or pretender time. He should have won his past two and be in the Stradbroke field but an awful racing pattern has hurt him badly. He got a mile back at Sandown last time but loved the way he closed off. If within range, I think his finale will be too much.
9 Tavs (Bet Now: $17.00) wasn’t there to play in the BRC Sprint two weeks back. Wide barrier, dragged back to last and didn’t really feature at all. Hard fit now, back to a track he loves, his best is good enough to be dangerous.
Race 8. (15:52) Queensland Oaks 2200m
10 Solid Gold (Bet Now: $8.50) is a clear top seed for me. I think Tommy had to ride her the way he did in the Derby to find a spot, and he did, but that early burn in a fast run race, it just told on her late. She has a gate this time to do no work in the run, has the runs on the board, and if she handles the back up, she’s the one to beat.
7 Grand Omaha (Bet Now: $11.00) is flying for Matt Laurie. She comes through The Roses when off speed and went off the track on the turn when checked but loved the way she balanced up and found the line when third. She’ll eat up 2200m and hopefully gets a clear path to wind into her work. Just the rider…he’s scary at the moment.
17 Sheeza Diva (Bet Now: $201.00) steps up to 2200m after racing over 1800m two weeks back at Randwick when off speed but saved ground nearer the inside and drove hard late when fourth. Has looked a filly for this race all prep…is she good enough? Maybe not, but a must include in exotics.
Race 9. (16:28) Moreton Cup 1200m
5 Metalart… (Bet Now: $34.00) if they ride with intent here, I think he’ll take beating. He has been ridden like a barrier trial in both runs back, the latest in the BRC Sprint where he looked to have plenty to offer but had no clear air. Back to 1200m I don’t mind and if he gets room to move, ridden more forward, he’ll only run well.
10 King Of Sparta (Bet Now: $8.50) should prove hard to beat after his return in the Ortensia at Scone, getting badly held up at the wrong stage in the straight and pretty much went around like it was a barrier trial. He’ll get room to wind up here and launch late.
12 Esjay (Bet Now: $23.00) is flying. Big win here first up before being thrown in the deep end in the Doomben 10,000 and I thought he ran an absolute belter in defeat behind Rothfire. Back to this level, back to Eagle Farm, he’ll run a beauty.
