Ipswich will conduct a seven race meeting on Monday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:53) Follow @Ipswichturfclub Hcp 800m
I want to give 9 Capital Em (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) another chance. Kelly Schweida trained filly that debuted over 1000m at the Sunny Coast where the market said she would run well but she was very raw and new to the caper, finishing down the track behind Platinum Lies. Draws to lead, like her back to 800m and with Blinkers on, there is clear intent here that they are going to jump and run.
4 Dangereuse (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of Under The Louvre for Brett Cavanough that is on debut. He’s only had one trial, which came a couple of weeks back at Scone over 900m and I thought moved pretty well to run third, beaten three lengths, but seemingly had something up the sleeve. Draws gate one and drawing that marble in 800m Ipswich races is absolute gold. Key chance.
2 Chakra Boy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) commands respect. Sharryn Livingstone trained gelding that is having start one off the back off a nice trial win at the Sunny Coast. He won in solid time and did it nicely to my eye. The gate does makes things tricky, so I think Stanley will push the button early in trying to get across. If he does, I think he’ll take holding out.
Race 2. (13:28) The Barn Family Restaurant Mdn 1350m
Pretty keen here on 5 Miss Bacall (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) for Paul Jenkins. This mare by Tivaci is getting better with racing it seems. Both career outings have come at the Sunny Coast, just finding the 1000m a bit sharp on debut before going to 1200m where she found the line with purpose when second to Never Give Up, a likely type. Like her up to 1350m and the depth here is on the thin side IMO.
Not sure 12 Romantic Thoughts (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) wins but she is honest and is a must for exotics. Last couple of runs have come on testing ground at Ballina, the latest over 1400m when lobbing 1/1 and tried her guts out but couldn’t quite get there when second to Red Hot Rubix. Should lob into a lovely spot from the gate and has the hard race fitness/experience under the belt.
13 Sukiche (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will land on the bunny and give a sight at a price. His last couple of runs have come at this track/distance, the latest coming on March 23 when outside the speed and ran a positive race for the most part, just feeling the pinch at the end behind Sacred Mission, who is a talented animal, so I think the form is decent enough to say he can run top four.
Race 3. (14:03) Tab Hcp 1200m
2 Haunted (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks the one here for me. He ran in a strong 85 last Saturday at Doomben and just forget he went around when wide throughout and that hard run told in the straight. Maps to get a much better run in transit this time around and gets a big upgrade in the jockey ranks with Jimmy Orman taking over. Back a fair bit in depth, he’ll do me.
3 Ovidius (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is flying for Kevin Kemp and has to be respected despite the rise in depth. He ran at this track/distance last time out, with sustained speed coming to the fore, leading throughout and was there to be beaten but he found under pressure to fend them off and win. Should in front here and if he gets some level of control, he’ll take running down once again.
1 Constant Flight (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Former Cameron Crockett runner that is having his first run for Lindsay Gough. You look at his overall form, gee it reads well for a race like this. Just depends where he is at, and going off a recent trial, he looks like he is enjoying life. If he brings his best, he likely wins, but watch the market.
Race 4. (14:38) Schweppes (Bm75) 800m
4 Turboart (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should jump on the bunny and prove too sharp for this lot. Mark Currie trained gelding that is racing in a real purple patch at the moment, winning at Chinchilla two back before proving that was no fluke with a win at Gold Coast Poly, letting down with purpose from off the speed and had the momentum to win. Draws gate one, should find the top and be hard to run down.
The gate makes it tricky for 2 For My Annie (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) but in terms of form, she is the best horse in the race. She resumes for Lindsay Hatch, having not raced since September 24 when down the track on the home deck at Toowoomba on Weetwood Day behind Be Water My Friend. Short course specialist so like her at 800m and dangerous with luck from the gate.
9 Baronessa (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can be included in wider multiples. She was big odds when resuming at this track/distance. She sat in the first few and tried hard but being fresh, condition just gave way when a close up fourth to Because The Knight. Not sure she has the quality to beat some of these, but drawing gate two, she won’t be far away and down in the weights, is a first four threat.
Race 5. (15:13) Great Northern Hcp 1350m
2 Betterdeel (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) on top for me. Desleigh Forster trains this filly, that ran in the 3YO Jewel at Doomben where she got a mile out of her ground and was never a factor so I am being forgiving of her down the track effort behind All That Pizzazz. Has run well at the trip previously when trained by Clinton Taylor and back miles in grade/depth, I’ll bank on her class getting her home.
6 April In Augusta (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip for Kelly Schweida. Last couple of runs have come at 1000m, the latest being at Eagle Farm at the midweeks where she got back off the speed and launched late, but just missed out on the win when a narrow second to a handy type in Liquor. Like her up in trip and with luck from the wide draw, she’s a key threat.
7 Radiant Queen (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Michael Nolan, a month between runs since racing at this trip on her home deck at Toowoomba where she got back in the small field and found the line well enough without threatening behind Our Magnus. She comes here back to her own age and 1350m off a break tells me she is up to the mark re fitness. Leading chance.
Race 6. (15:52) Labour Day Races Mon 1 May-62 1350m
7 Nippa’s Nightcamp (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) picks himself after scratchings. He comes here off a mini let up, with two runs in February, each time catching the eye, first up at the Sunny Coast before a really good effort against the race shape at Eagle Farm behind Hang Five, a Saturday class horse when right. Back to a very moderate 62 here, it’s a case of good luck beating him.
6 Blinding Light (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can be hit and miss but her best is good enough to be dangerous. Down the track effort two back at Doomben but bounced back to her best with a dominant win at the Sunny Coast, giving them a start and a beating in an impressive display. Not sure she is good enough to beat the Vandyke pair, but should they be off their game, she is certainly there to strike.
14 Late Night Devil (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes here as a last start winner so in that regard, she commands some level of respect. That said, she was a big price when winning the maiden at this track/distance and really did a good job after making a sustained run from off the speed. Lands in a decent spot from the inside gate and can fill a first four spot.
Race 7. (16:32) Sirromet Plate (C2) 1666m
15 Fireflies (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) on top for me in the get out. Brett Cavanough trained filly that is looking to make it three on the bounce. Gave them an absolute belting to win a Coffs Harbour maiden two back before going to Ballina where she found a bog track and while she won, she was nowhere near as dynamic compared to on top of the ground at Coffs. Back on firmer footing here, hard to beat provided there is petrol left in the tank.
1 Buon Acquisito (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Both runs back from a spell have come at the Sunny Coast. Close up fifth fresh over 1400m before going to the mile where he attempted to lead throughout and tried hard but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Hyde. Hard fit now, good run on speed, he is hard to beat.
2 Flying Euros (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has an awful winning strike rate but the last run had some level of merit to it. That came on the Poly at the Gold Coast where he got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a threat, I didn’t mind the way he finished his race off behind Waylaid. He’ll likely be a big price here, for good reason, but off that effort, he can pinch a first four spot.
