An excellent nine race program will be run and won at Moonee Valley on Saturday, headlined by the Feehan Stakes (1600m). The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:30) Ladbrokes Hcp 1500m
7 Elegant Diva (Bet Now:Β $5.50 TOP ODDS) on top in what I feel is a pretty thin race. Peter Moody trained filly that debuted over 1200m in a Geelong maiden and was very impressive from off the speed to win with plenty in hand and clocked good late splits. Should eat up 1500m and any rain is a big tick given the breeding.
2 Major Beel (Bet Now:Β $3.70 TOP ODDS) is a beauty for GaiBott and confident he can measure up. He ran a few weeks ago at Rosehill where he was part of a speed battle and was entitled to knock right up but he kept finding and really, was only nabbed late. If that hasn’t busted him, he’ll take beating.
1 Castillian (Bet Now:Β $4.20 TOP ODDS) is working up to another win. He ran a game second to Berkeley Square two back at Flemington before going here two weeks ago where he looked the winner when he surged late, but had to settle for a very narrow second to Virtuous Circle. He’s hard fit, racing well and has the run at the track now so he should be better for it.
Race 2. (13:05) Powerflo Solutions Hcp 2040m
1 Midnight Blue (Bet Now:Β $7.00 TOP ODDS) might want one more, but I think he’s on track. He resumed at Caulfield in what was very much a sit/sprint, but I liked the way he kept finding the line in a good return behind Jimmy The Bear, who ran well in the Heatherlie last Saturday. Has class and that will carry him a long way.
6 Mohican Heights (Bet Now:Β $4.80 TOP ODDS) is one with good upside and the Waller polish. He ran second to Not Usual Glorious sveeral weeks back at this track/distance. He was never running down the SA raider, but he stayed on and was good in defeat when second. With upside, he’s a key threat.
If this track is playing on speed, 3 Irish Flame (Bet Now:Β $6.50) is in the mix. He led two weeks back at this track/distance at an absolute crawl and was only beaten by a couple of quality Maher/Eustace stayers in Mankayan and Smokin Romans. Hard fit, saves his best for the Valley 2040m, he’ll give a sight.
Race 3. (13:40) Inglis Plate 1200m
2 Millane (Bet Now:Β $3.90 TOP ODDS) looks right on track for the Caulfield Guineas IMO. He resumed in the Vain at Caulfield and worked to the line very nicely when third to a couple of sharp short course gallopers, Giga Kick and Alpha One. Staying at 1200m and going to The Valley are the knocks, but he has class.
8 Amenable (Bet Now:Β $8.00 TOP ODDS) is a Lonhro colt for the Price/Kent camp that resumes. He only had the one run in the Autumn, which resulted in an electric win from off the speed at Sandown, beating the well performed Jamarra. Given a good break with the Spring in mind and his two jumpouts have been quite encouraging.
3 Athletica (Bet Now:Β $13.00 TOP ODDS) can be an improver at odds. GaIBott trained three year old that has had two runs back from a spell in Sydney and hasn’t exactly set the world on fire, but each run has come on very wet ground, and he should get a firmer deck here. Had trialled up very nicely prior to the resumption, so I am not penning him.
Race 4. (14:15) Feehan Stakes 1600m
2 Mr Brightside (Bet Now:Β $1.90 TOP ODDS) is the one they have to beat. Stable dodged the Memsie last Saturday to try and get the golden ticket into the Cox Plate with a win here. He resumed in the PB Lawrence three weeks ago at Caulfield where class came to the fore, knuckling down strongly late to win. Fitter and up to the mile, been set for this race, it all points to him.
1 Spanish Mission (Bet Now:Β $9.50 TOP ODDS) has bigger fish to fry, but this race can be just about class runners, backing the best horse, and he is clearly that. I’d argue this is the first proper prep that Peter Moody has had with him. Mixed Autumn prep, but he was purchased for the Melbourne Cup so this is his prep to shine, his two jumpouts have been solid enough and did run super first up last prep. I think he’s here to rock and roll.
3 Sound (Bet Now:Β $26.00 TOP ODDS) is ten years of age but he did run well in this race fresh last year, albeit in an edition much weaker than this. He resumes, with an eye towards staying features, but the small field likely ensures it’ll be a crawling tempo, he won’t be far away in the run…wouldn’t shock me if he beat a runner or two home.
Race 5. (14:55) Mcewen Stakes 1000m
5 Away Game (Bet Now:Β $8.50) is such a genuine mare for the Maher/Eustace camp that resumes. She hasn’t raced since the Tatts Tiara where she ran as bravely as ever behind Startantes, beaten just under three lengths. Trial and jumpout work has been strong and stable is flying, and I can see her getting the suck run, launching late.
I do think the weather is crucial to 7 Coolangatta (Bet Now:Β $2.30). IMO, she’s a pure dry tracker, so slight rain forecast concerns me with her, but off the jumpouts, she’s the starting point. Hasn’t raced since the Golden Slipper where she looked $1.01 in the run 400m out but as soon as J Mac asked for the effort, the wheels were spinning. If she runs up to the jumpouts, she wins. Just want to see how much rain hits and what the track rating is.
There looks to be clear intent with 2 In The Congo (Bet Now:Β $5.00). GaiBott trained four year old that resumes, having not raced since the All Aged when producing an end of prep run when down the track behind Cascadian. Trials have been excellent and first up, I reckon he’s here to make a statement.
Race 6. (15:35) Atlantic Jewel Stakes 1200m
3 I’mlovinya (Bet Now:Β $3.40) is an improver. She resumed in the Quezette three weeks back where she paraded like she would need the run and that’s how it panned out, but she stuck on well enough in defeat when third. She was good late but getting to 1200m, I think she’ll take beating.

5 Boogie Dancer (Bet Now:Β $6.00) will be better suited over slightly further but how can you ignore anything the Moody stable is saddling up. Has been kept on ice, having not raced since July 23 when winning over 1400m at Caulfield in a rich VOBIS race. Eyes on the Thousand Guineas, but has residual fitness and a turn of foot.
10 Va Via (Bet Now:Β $14.00) looks to have been set for the race. James Cummings trained filly that has had a couple of runs at the track in readiness for a third up assault at Stakes grade. Good from the back here two weeks back in a race not run to suit. Dangerous if she’s within range.
Race 7. (16:15) Chautauqua Stakes 1200m
6 Age Of Chivalry (Bet Now:Β $12.00) is a very interesting runner. Formerly with Simon Zahra, he now finds himself with the Price/Kent and albeit limited, the stable are very good at improving a tried horse. His jumpout work has been strong and can sprint well fresh, so I think watch the market.
4 Ranges (Bet Now:Β $6.50) is an absolute beauty for Team Snowden that is holding his form superbly. He tried his guts out in the Regal Roller but was clearly no match late for Uncommon James, running second after doing work. Doubt he turns the tables, but runs well regardless.
11 Felicia (Bet Now:Β $26.00) has hard fitness under the belt, which has her right in the mix. She was on speed a few weeks back in the Regal Roller and tried hard, but was no match late for Uncommon James, finishing fourth. A drop of rain won’t hurt her cause and she does have the fitness edge on some of these.
Race 8. (16:50) Drummond Golf Hcp 1600m
5 Uncle Bryn (Bet Now:Β $2.35) looks the one in a two horse. He resumed in the PB Lawrence when outclassed on paper, plus with an ordinary race shape, I thought he did an excellent job in defeat behind Mr Brightside. Fitter and up to the mile, down in the weights, good upside…all points to him.
6 Military Expert (Bet Now:Β $3.40) has upside too and is the map horse. Loved the way he dug in to win fresh at Caulfield, beating El Rocko, who was luckless last Saturday. Military Expert was there to be beaten but he found, which is a good sign for the prep. With a cheap run on speed, he commands respect.
3 So Si Bon (Bet Now:Β $11.00) has a good record at The Valley and has class. He attempted to lead throughout at Caulfield three weeks ago and he gave a solid kick, but was no match late for Jimmy The Bear, who ran well last Saturday in the Heatherlie. His best days are behind him, but the last start was good enough to suggest he’ll be around the mark here.
Race 9. (17:25) Pfd Food Services (Bm78) 1600m
10 Attractable (Bet Now:Β $4.20) looks ready to win. Peter Moody trained gelding that ran over 1200m at Caulfield three two weeks ago where he was given a peach by Kah and looked the winner but was bloused right near the peg by a quality mare in I Am Bene. Looking for further and hard fit for a stable that is flying, he appeals big time.
13 Pounding (Bet Now:Β $7.00) deserves another chance. He was well fancied last time out at Bendigo but he didn’t fire a shot, clearly not handling the heavy track in clear forgive. Back on a firmer deck here, and off the first up effort, he has to be respected because his best is good enough.
7 Unanimous (Bet Now:Β $10.00) can easily win this without surprising. He resumed a few weeks back over 1400m at Caulfield and worked to the line pretty well behind Military Expert, pulling up lame post race, so the run had even more merit. Drop of rain will be ideal, he’s got good upside and the Maher/Eustace polish.
