Avila, a four-year-old unraced daughter of Makybe Diva, has been bought for $125,000 out of the recent Inglis Digital Catalogue.
Avila, who is by Written Tycoon, was purchased by John Wheeler, who told Racing.com that the opportunity to buy into the Makybe Diva family was one that was too good to miss out on.
“It’s a bit hard to walk away from a family like Makybe Diva’s, there isn’t going to be any more,” he said.”
Wheeler, who has stallion Russian Camelot, a dual Group 1 winner, in his portfolio, said that Avila had been purchased for breeding purposes and that she would be served by Russian Camelot in current breeding season.
“I’m happy, she’s going to go to Russian Camelot, I’m looking forward to hopefully finding a decent runner from them,” said Wheeler.
“Any breeding, like racing, is a gamble.
“The family is a strong family, a lot of the progeny haven’t raced as well as the dam, but they have raced and they have won, so at the end of the day you can only say there’s a chance.
“If you’ve got an active family and you can put it to what I hope is a very good sire in Russian Camelot, I’m very happy.”
Of Makybe Diva’s nine progeny to date, two are unraced, one has raced and has yet to win, three have won one race and three have won two races.
They have had a combined total of eighty-two starts for nine wins with $226,617 earned in prize-money.
