Glorious Goodwood continues on Friday night, headlined by the King George Qatar Stakes (1100m), where Battaash is looking for his fifth straight win in the race.
King George Stakes 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the King George Stakes
Race 1. (22:50) Unibet Goodwood Handicap 4145m
Going to have a small speck on 3 Who Dares Wins (Bet Now: $26.00) in the opener. He won the 2020 Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot so we know the trip will be no issue. He failed in the race last month so the jury is out on how well he is going, but tinkering with the head gear should spark him up.
4 Elysian Flame (Bet Now: $9.00) is mainly a jumper but is staring to build up a decent profile on the flat. Ran very well in the Ascot Stakes at Royal Ascot when a close up third. He looks to have the upside and progression to give this a shake.
1 Withhold (Bet Now: $11.00) would love this track to be on the dry side because he is a very capable stayer that will be on speed and giving his all. He has strong form lines and if this track is playing towards those near the front of the pack, he will run a ripping race.
Race 2. (23:25) Thoroughbred Stakes 1609m
1 Baaeed (Bet Now: $1.50) looks a potential superstar. 3/3 to start his career and he has got better with each run, winning by spaces and has looked so impressive. He’s short enough so not sure I want to dive in but he’s a superstar in the making and should be winning this.
2 El Drama (Bet Now: $9.00) should appreciate the drop back in grade/depth. Thrown in the deep end in the Eclipse and didn’t disgrace himself at all in a high quality Group l contest. I highly doubt he beats Baaeed but in terms of a bet, El Drama running top three I could entertain.
4 Perotto (Bet Now: $11.00) should run an improved race back up in trip. Won over this trip at Royal Ascot before going back in trip at Newmarket and I thought he was just fair, but the depth to the line up was solid enough. Like him back up to the mile and should get a lovely run in transit from gate one.
Race 3. (00:00) Unibet Golden Mile Handicap 1609m
I’m with 15 Path Of Thunder (Bet Now: $3.75). Progressive galloper for the Appleby camp that had the Blinkers first time when bolting up at Newmarket, with the gear change seemingly sparking him right up. You’d like to think he will improve off that and if so, he will take a power of beating.
5 Magical Morning (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Team Gosden runner that is third up with room for improvement. Looked like he needed the run when resuming in the Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot. He then went to Sandown and bounced back to win impressively. Has to be respected.
19 Qaader (Bet Now: $9.50) is on the quick back up for the Johnston camp after winning here earlier in this week when winning over the ten furlongs and doing it in impressive style. Back to the mile I find interesting but he certainly won’t be lacking in race fitness.
Race 4. (00:35) King George Stakes 1005m
To me, this is Battaash or a blowout. I’m going to have a 1×3 speck on 1 Arecibo (Bet Now: $23.00). He is flying at the moment and is bursting to win a big race. Closed off well to run second in the Kings Stand before a close up second in the Sprint Stakes at Sandown. He is $15 and 1×3 at the odds, he will do me.
3 Battaash (Bet Now: $2.50) is looking for an unbelievable 5th straight win in this race. If he brings his best, he just wins and should be $1.50. But, jury is out. He resumed off joint surgery in the Kings Stand and I thought had every chance on speed. Is he going as well as he can? Market will be the guide.
13 Suesa (Bet Now: $9.50) is a swimmer that should appreciate a wet track if she gets conditions to suit and run a much improved race. Unbeaten record leading into the Commonwealth Cup where she failed and was plain. Off what she did in France, she could be dangerous at odds.
Race 5. (01:10) Glorious Stakes 2412m
Another race that could have a bearing on the Melbourne Cup. This is D-Day for 5 Mogul (Bet Now: $3.25). Contender or pretender time for him IMO. Hasn’t exactly set the world on fire this year but he has loads of class on these and I’ll bank on the stable having him ready to go.
8 Passion And Glory (Bet Now: $4.20) has been a revelation this prep. His efforts at Meydan were poor but has returned to the UK and has bounced back to his best with wins at Lingfield and Ascot. He’s heading in the right direction and can definitely take this out.
9 Without A Fight (Bet Now: $11.00) can run an improved race at odds. He has been quite consistent in recent times but hasn’t been able to break through in easier races, so the class rise is a query, but I think he is a must for exotics.
Race 6. (01:45) Unibet Nursery 1207m
8 Sir Henry Cotton (Bet Now: $12.00) on top in what looks an even race for the juveniles. Andrew Balding trains with Oisin Murphy to steer. He ran down the straight at Newbury last time out when on speed and he fought on very well to run second. He will likely be near the front of the pack and running a bold race.
5 Adeb (Bet Now: $6.00) is a few weeks between runs since winning over 1000m at Beverley. Had a suck run behind the speed before angling into clear air and away he went. The overall time was just fair but he’s got progression and is racing like the rise in trip will suit.
1 Jadhlaan (Bet Now: $9.50) should appreciate dropping back in grade/depth after contesting a Group ll at Newmarket last time out where he found the class a bit rich. Better suited at this level and drawn out, he will get clear air from the outset and can easily bounce back here.
Race 7. (02:20) Tdn Australia Handicap 2253m
2 Marching Army (Bet Now: $12.00) in the get out. Godolphin galloper that should appreciate the rise in trip. Led throughout to get the job done at Leicester last time out, and gee he was strong late in winning. He looks like he should eat up the rise in trip and is one of the hardest to beat.
1 Wink Of An Eye (Bet Now: $4.00) is a progressive stayer that is in form and should have little trouble with the rise in distance. Given a lovely ride by Tom Marquand to bolt up at Sandown and gee he was strong late in getting the job done. The way he has been racing, he should handle the trip fine and gets Ryan Moore.
12 Amy Beach (Bet Now: $19.00) is a hard fit/in form filly who will put herself on speed and give her all. Led throughout at Epsom last time out and she never looked like getting beat under a lovely front running steer. The depth here is stronger but she will run well regardless.
