Catchy – $2.45 (2017 Blue Diamond Prelude)
After coming from last and bolting in at Moonee Valley on debut, Catchy was even more impressive in just her second career start to win by almost 2 and a half-lengths. She went into the Prelude with plenty of admirers with a number backers placing big bets on the favourite with online bookmakers, cashing in early on the eventual Blue Diamond Stakes winner.
Viddora – $2.50 (2018 Magic Millions Sprint)
The 5-year-old mare came with a gallant run to triumph in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes over in the west, accounting for some of the countries top-tier sprinters. Facing an easier task at the Gold Coast in January, punters did not miss her as she bolted in to win the last event of the day convincingly.
Ef Troop – $2.10 (2017 Phelan Ready Stakes)
Another big winner around Magic Millions time, the better than even money quote for Ef Troop was a charity for punters who took the $2+ odds. Ef Troop looked far superior to his opposition, in the end streaking away with a convincing 5.3L victory. One punter was lucky enough to have $3,000 on Ef Troop at a stupid price of $2.90.
Plein Ciel – $1.95 (2017 Swettenham Stud Summer Championships Heat 7)
Was unbeaten in Australia after 4 runs, scoring easily at Warrnambool before consecutive victories by 3+ lengths at Sandown and Caulfield. It seemed the German import kept improving, with punters quick to take the juicy odds on offer when he stepped out in benchmark 84 company. Bets of $20,000, $8,000 and $5,000 were placed on the Darren Weir runner at odds of as much as $2.40.
Music Magnate – $2.50 (2017 Victory Stakes)
Won a trial by 6 lengths at Warwick Farm but 7 days prior to stepping out in the Group 2 Victory Stakes at Eagle Farm. The Group 1 winner would have to take care of a skinny field of just 6 to get the money, even beating Winx by over 3L in a trial just months before hand. Music Magnate romped it in by 1 and a half lengths, with punters questioning why they didn’t have more on it.
Winx – $1.80 (2106 Cox Plate)
Possibly the easiest money ever made. Plenty of admirers came for the great mare a long time before the race, at odds of much better than $2. One crazed punter was lucky enough to have $100,000 at $2.40 on the super-mare with online bookmaker Ladbrokes. She was never in doubt, running away with the Cox Plate by 8 lengths.
