Class filly Fix went a bit closer to securing the Filly of the Year series after securing the Group Two Sir Tristram Fillies classic (1200m) at Te Rapa.
As she did in the Royal Stakes, Fix led all the way for jockey Vinny Colgan and found a bit extra when pressured by Soriano and More Than Sacred to win by half a length.
It was Fix’s third Group Two win on end following the Eight Carat Classic and the Royal Stakes and extended the Iffraaj filly’s lead in the Filly of the Year series to 8.5 points over Soriano with two races remaining.
Trainer Ken Kelso wouldn’t commit to a next start for Fix but said he was keen to win the fillies series, in which just two events remain – the Group Three Lowland Stakes at Hastings, worth six points, and the Group One New Zealand Oaks at Trentham, worth 12.
“If that sews it up (the fillies series) I might not go to them,” he said.
“I never make decisions on raceday. I might throw a curveball at everybody and do something completely different.”
Fix’s continuing success will be good news for Sydney buyer Alan Bell, who paid $800,000 for Fix’s yearling half-sister by Zabeel at the Karaka Premier Sale.
Kelso has expressed doubts as to whether Fix would stay the 2400m Oaks trip but jockey Vinny Colgan said he was confident.
