Victorian jockey Brent Evans will miss the bulk of the Group One meetings at the Brisbane winter carnival following a hefty careless riding suspension at Doomben.
Evans will miss 12 meetings after pleading guilty to careless riding for his ride aboard the Greg Eurell-trained Zombie Dancer in The Roses.
Chief steward Wade Birch said Evans caused severe interference to Express Power (Jim Cassidy), Dolphus (Chris Munce) and Vaquera (Michael Rodd) near the 1500 metres in The Roses.
“What doesn’t go in your favour is the degree of interference and your poor record as far as careless riding infringements is concerned,” Birch said.
“We’re into the fifth month of the year and this is your fifth suspension.”
Evans’s ban begins after Sunday’s Sunshine Coast meeting and ends at midnight on June 9, the day after the Stradbroke Handicap meeting at Eagle Farm.
