Race 1. (11:00) Home Affairs At Coolmore Hcp 1100m
3 Gallant Star (Bet Now:Β $4.60 TOP ODDS) is unbeaten in two career outings for Brett Robb. Both wins have come over 1100m at Dubbo, the latest win seeing him lead throughout and beat the older horses, which is a big tick for me, no matter where the race was. On speed, hard fit, wet track experience, he can measure up.
6 Midnight In Tokyo (Bet Now:Β $6.50 TOP ODDS) deserves another chance. Four weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance where she was near the speed throughout but Kathy decided to go towards the inside when taking the front, and clearly the inside section was cactus, so forgive the weak finish. Off prior form, she’s hard to beat here.
2 Forecaster (Bet Now:Β $14.00 TOP ODDS) has an awful draw to overcome but he has come back in reall good order for Paul Perry. Impressive first up winner at Canterbury, albeit helped by the bias. He then raced here where he looked the winner when he sliced through but was nabbed late by Wingardium. Has the good fitness base to be strong late.
Race 2. (11:35) Tab Highway Hcp (C3) 1400m
8 King’s Trust (Bet Now:Β $13.00 TOP ODDS) should love the rise to 1400m for Terry Robinson. The Highway veteran is on the seven day back up after racing over 1100m last Saturday in a Highway at Rosehill and I liked the way he finished his race off without threatening when third to Iconic Dame. Love he gets to 1400m, he handles wet ground and has a sense of timing.
3 Tags (Bet Now:Β $4.60 TOP ODDS) is knocking on the door to win. Gayna Williams trained gelding that ran at the midweeks at Canterbury last time out where he had a suck run behind the speed and tried hard, but just couldn’t quite get there. Stayed on though and was sound behind Narrated, finishing third. That reads well for this.
16 Twig (Bet Now:Β $12.00 TOP ODDS) is a mare for Matty Dale that I have time for. This girl comes back to Highway grade after going to her home track at Canberra last time, getting the job done from off the speed under a peach from Brock Ryan. Has shown promise since day one, so confident she can measure up.
Race 3. (12:10) Grainshaker Vodka (Bm72) 1400m
5 Kanazawa (Bet Now:Β $3.20 TOP ODDS) is flying for James Cummings. He should have won a few weeks ago at Randwick. Unfortunately he had to get snagged back from the wide gate but loved the way he closed off. If he can sit closer in the run and be within range, I think he’ll take a power of beating.
D-Day for 3 And We Danced (Bet Now:Β $3.20 TOP ODDS). Looked all over a winner last time out at Randwick but she couldn’t quite get there and if you were on her, you would have been filthy with her plain finale when third. Hopefully she won’t be far away and punting hat off, she’s come back really well.
1 Lease (Bet Now:Β $5.50 TOP ODDS) is hard fit now and gets to a more suitable trip. Close up third to Moon Reader first up at Randwick before going to Rosehill when near the speed and fought on pretty well in defeat behind Titanium Power. Like him back to this sort of race, expecting improvement.
Race 4. (12:45) Chandon (Bm78) 2000m
Tricky race with a host of chances. In saying that, I do think 7 Tinnie Winnie (Bet Now:Β $4.20 TOP ODDS) is the one to beat. Chris Waller trained mare that put together a couple of wins to start the prep before racing over this trip at Rosehill and I thought she was very good against the pattern behind Born A King. Loves getting her feet wet, hard fit, she’ll do me.
Giving respect to 10 Kirkeby (Bet Now:Β $9.00 TOP ODDS). He ran over 1900m at Canterbury last start where he was given a peach by Bowman and was hailed as the winner when he loomed, but had to settle for a narrow second to Tudor Prince. Gets massive weight relief, handles wet ground and up in trip on a bigger track is a big tick.
13 Kouklara (Bet Now:Β $14.00) was scratched from a much easier race at Canterbury on Thursday to be saved for this. He ran at that track last time out and chased strongly from off the speed when second to Narrated, who goes around as a key chance in a Stakes race at Doomben later this afternoon, so the form reads well I think and up to 2000m is a big tick.
Race 5. (13:20) Midway (Bm72) 1600m
13 Tympanist (Bet Now:Β $7.00) should take beating here for David Payne. He’s a progressive animal for David Payne that was close up in a Midway two back behind Marnix. Backed up a week later here and was good in defeat when second to Kalino. Likes wet ground and last start showed the mile is ideal.
5 Oakfield Prince (Bet Now:Β $5.50) brings good form lines. Just the knock being the end of 1600m but he has T Clark and a soft gate, as well as good wet track stats. He ran second in the Marnix race mentioned above where he was helped by the race shape but was still a solid effort. I keep going back to a few runs back over the mile at Eagle Farm where he was given every chance but didn’t attack the line, so while he’s hard to beat, I couldn’t take $5/thereabouts.
2 Dr Evil (Bet Now:Β $11.00) is a swimmer who gets conditions to suit. He ran over 1800m last Wednesday on the Kenso track where he was back near last in the run and made up some headway without threatening behind The Milkybar Kid, a promising animal. Strong mile is up his alley, as well as getting his toe in.
Race 6. (13:55) Precise Air (Bm78) 1100m
1 Easy Single (Bet Now:Β $2.30) looks one of the better bets on the program. Maher/Eustace trained gelding that is a few weeks between runs since racing here where he got back off the speed and worked to the line strongly, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to Siege. Bred to swim, maps ideally and is the one with consistent positive form.
6 Conscript (Bet Now:Β $4.00) looks to have returned in pretty good order. Couple of trials leading into his resumption two weeks ago here where he was very good from near last when a strong third to Hulk, somewhat helped by the crazy tempo in front. He does like wet ground and has upside to come, so hopefully won’t be far back and launch late.
10 Casino Kid (Bet Now:Β $21.00) is a handy galloper for Jan Bowen that resumes. He is probably best known as being a solid Highway horse, but he showed last prep that he can well and truly measure up as a Saturday metro horse. 1100m is on the short side, but has trialled well and loves wet ground.
Race 7. (14:35) Bowermans (Bm88) 1200m
11 Waihaha Falls (Bet Now:Β $2.05) looks to be in for a really good prep. Brilliant return a few weeks back over 1200m at Randwick. Got the suck run behind the speed and was absolutely trucking under Jones. Just a matter of pushing the button and once he did, he exploded and gapped them. He’s got more to come, hard to beat.
5 Poetic Charmer (Bet Now:Β $20.00) is a quality horse for Team Snowden that resumes. He hasn’t raced since March 28 when producing an end of prep run at Newcastle behind O’President in an on speed dominated affair. Trialled well at Randwick, without Blinkers, and he is a Blinkers horse. Watch the market and see what it does.
13 Sir Kalahad (Bet Now:Β $11.00) is a proper swimmer who gets conditions to suit and I think back to 1200m is a big tick. He found 1300m at Sandown too far last time behind Umgawa, that run being four weeks ago. Trialled up sharply at Cranbourne on Monday and with sustained speed, he will run a bold race.
Race 8. (15:15) Winter Stakes 1400m
3 Taksu (Bet Now:Β $3.40) is one of the better swimmers going around and with the rain forecast, he’s the one they have to beat. Great ride from Glyn saw him win the Civic two weeks ago here where he led throughout, stealing a winning break on the turn and maintaining a margin. On the bog, on speed, it’ll take a drop off for him to get beat I’d suggest.
2 Oscar Zulu (Bet Now:Β $7.50) is bursting to win a race for Chris Waller. He ran in the Civic a fortnight back and worked home powerfully late nearer the inside, which was the right spot, when a narrow second to Taksu. He loves getting his feet well and if he can sit closer in the run, he’s a clear threat.
14 New Arrangement (Bet Now:Β $34.00) is suited here I feel. Several weeks between runs since racing over 1400m at Randwick where he got to last in the run and while he was never a winning factor, his finale was more than sound I thought behind Coal Crusher. I think give in the track helps and dangerous if he can settle closer in the run.
Race 9. (15:55) Schweppes (Bm78) 1100m
1 Siege (Bet Now:Β $3.70) is a James Cummings trained mare that is starting to put it together. Lovely ride from King saw her win fresh at Gosford before racing here a few weeks ago where the gaps needed to appear and once she did, she surged hard late to win, just. She’s got more to come and I think racing on the fresh side suits.
2 Rubinocchi (Bet Now:Β $3.20) will jump on the bunny and prove hard to beat. Strong winner over 1100m at Rosehill three weeks back but I will say was helped by the bias, never mind the Rosehill 1100m suiting on pacers on a fair track. Once the on speed bias was known, she was a good thing and duly won. Harder here, but she’s a horse in form.
11 Beattrix (Bet Now:Β $14.00) loves getting her feet wet so she gets conditions to suit for Tony Noonan. Two weeks between runs since racing at Caulfield where she was game in defeat from off the speed behind an in form Little Stevie. With a heavy track, I think she’s in the mix as a knockout hope.
Race 10. (16:30) Ranvet (Bm78) 1400m
7 Cross Talk (Bet Now:Β $3.20) will jump on the bunny and prove hard to run down. Several weeks between runs since racing over 1400m at Randwick where he attemped to lead throughout and he gave a strong kick but couldn’t quite finish it off when second to Jojo Was A Man, who won again next start, so the form reads well and he has the ideal racing pattern.
5 Nikau Spur (Bet Now:Β $9.50) is a horse with talent for the Maher/Eustace camp and is clearly knocking on the door. Thought King produced a lovely ride on him several weeks back at Rosehill and he looked like he was going to win, but Mach Schnell fought back hard to edge him out. That was his first run in several weeks, and he does seem effective on the fresh side.
4 Silent Agenda (Bet Now:Β $21.00) looks to be in for a good prep. Resumed over 1300m at Rosehill three weeks back and albeit he was blessed in run, he worked to the line very well when second to Titanium Power. Gets better as the prep goes on but like him at this level and the return was encouraging.
