9/5/2020 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Doomben, BRC Sprint day

The Brisbane Winter Carnival warms up this Saturday at Doomben where it is BRC Sprint Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out four metres for the entire circuit.

Leaning the way of 12 I Dream Of Green (Bet Now: $11.00), a son of Unencumbered for Stuart Kendrick that resumes. This five year old hasn’t raced since Boxing Day at the Sunny Coast when down the track behind Silent Explorer. Trialled there on Tuesday and looked to move quite well. He sprints well fresh and Griffin is 2/2 on him.

6 Defence Missile (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Les Ross trained four year old who was down the track over 1400m at the Gold Coast before being given a freshen up and racing over 1000m at the Sunny Coast where he was really well specked at odds but just did a bit too much work from the wide gate but despite that, stuck on really well when a close up fifth to Just Orm. Want to give him a chance here, and hopefully gets better luck.

9 I’ve Gotta Nel (Bet Now: $8.00) looks suited back to this level. Good in defeat two back over 1200m here behind Fasano, with Jardin Rouge winning last Saturday to frank that form. He then came back to 1000m at the Sunny Coast in an open handicap when on speed and folding late. This looks more his go. One for multiples.

8 Speaking Bad (Bet Now: $6.50) looks one of the better gambles on the program I think. Her two runs back from a spell for Gary Duncan have been excellent. Resumed over the mile and was good late when third to Watch The Cat before remaining at that trip at the Sunny Coast and made ground behind Profit, a well performed three year old. Gets out to an ideal trip, brings the better form, proven at the trip despite not winning IMO and has more upside.

Think back to the 2020m will really suit the Tony Gollan trained 2 Galtero (Bet Now: $2.90). Adin Thompson couldn’t have ridden him better two weeks ago over 2200m at the Sunny Coast. Looked all over a winner but just the last 100m found him out when bloused late by the in form Populist. Back in trip, back to Doomben, he’s very likeable.

3 Advance Warning (Bet Now: $6.50) might need one more but the big thing going for him is the rise to the 2020m. Run off his legs first up over 1350m here before rising to the mile at the Sunny Coast and liked the way he finished his race off late behind Profit, especially after the line he was warming up. Eats up the extra ground here and has class. Does he need one more though?

4 Shamurt (Bet Now: $6.00) isn’t the most reliable galloper going round, but she’s fitter and will be better for the run at the Sunny Coast last start, her first run in around six weeks, and worked to the line pretty well behind Winning Shot. Canapes went close to winning last Saturday, so the form reads well. Just hope she can sit a pair or two closer in the run.

2 Hollaback Girl (Bet Now: $3.10) is knocking on the door to win one. Tony Gollan trained mare that ran at this track/distance last time out when just off the speed and tried hard but those in front controlled things to suit themselves and those behind couldn’t get a look in, including this girl. Back to Mares grade, she’s likeable for sure.

7 I Am Venus (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Kelly Schweida trained mare who has been thereabouts without winning this time in. Comes through the Niedorp race from a few weeks ago where she got a good run just off the speed from the inside gate but couldn’t finish it off and the run was just fair. Perhaps ridden quiet, up in trip, she can be more effective.

14 Trevello (Bet Now: $6.50) on top. Chris Munce trains this five year old, who was a strong winner two back at Beaudesert before racing here when near the speed throughout and battled away quite well when third to Niedorp, a Stakes performed filly, with Garibaldi running second, so the form around him reads well and from the gate, gets run of the race.

9 Depths Below (Bet Now: $11.00) is a son of Denman for Gillian Heinrich that didn’t have the best of luck two back at Ipswich from gate one, but the breaks went his way at the track the following start when getting clear air and surging hard to finish over the top. Yet to really prove himself in town but gets a great chance to do so.

2 Moscini (Bet Now: $19.00) could be an improver at odds. Resumed at the Gold Coast when hunting up from the inside to hold a forward spot and that early burn just told on him late when midfield behind Soxagon, a Stakes performed galloper. Draws wide, senior jock on, so think he presses forward and could take some catching at a price.

5 Enterprise Prince (Bet Now: $7.00) looks to be in for a good prep if his resumption is any guide. It came three weeks back here at this trip when off a slow speed and liked the way he was warming to the task late behind Racecourse Road. If this was 1400m, he’d be a near good thing. Just hope the speed is on for him to finish over the top.

6 Langhro (Bet Now: $10.00) is a Steve O’Dea trained gelding that I think will be suited back to 1350m. Ran over 1400m two weeks ago at the Sunny Coast in an open handicap where he attempted to lead throughout and gave a good kick. Just couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth to Silvera but was still more than sound. Back in depth/grade and back to 1350m, he’ll take some beating.

2 Tawfiq Boy (Bet Now: $23.00) can be a big improver here at odds. Has had two runs back from a spell in NSW and hasn’t been too bad each time he has stepped out. Resumed at Muswellbrook and was good late behind Star Boy before going to Randwick and wasn’t beaten far behind Snitz in what looked a strong race. Returns to Queensland and has upside, plus a rise in trip suits.

Difficult to see anything other than a win for the Steve O’Dea filly 7 Gotta Kiss (Bet Now: $1.90), who just gets in so well here at Set Weights. Resumed two weeks ago at the Gold Coast and ran a very honest, but bumped into a potential Stakes class filly in Isotope. Improves with that run, has the runs on the board and is just weighted to win.

Giving respect to the Barry Lockwood filly 11 Aviemore (Bet Now: $16.00). Not sure she beat much when debuting over the 1050m here, but she showed good early toe to lead and then had good change up speed at the finish, running sub 34 for her L600m in winning narrowly but impressively. Harder here, but you don’t know how good they are til they are beaten.

1 Kavak (Bet Now: $19.00) is a Chris Munce trained colt that had trialled up well prior to resuming at the Gold Coast two weeks ago where he didn’t really do a great deal I thought and just plodded when fourth to Isotope. To me, he seems effective on the tighter tracks ie Doomben/Gold Coast, so with that run under the belt, think he can improve.

8 Vanna Girl (Bet Now: $2.45) should love the step up to the mile here for the Edmonds camp. Class got her home last time out at the Gold Coast. Had to really dig in with the big weight and for a couple of strides didn’t look like she would get there, but class came through. She’ll eat up the mile here and is one of the leading chances.

1 Profit (Bet Now: $3.60), now he has won, can go on with it I feel. Quality three year old for Chris Anderson that had tested the patience of punters, but he stood up when it counted at the Sunny Coast and produced one of the wins of the afternoon given where he was in the run, spotting them a big start. Back to his own age, he’s very likeable.

3 Smart Meteor (Bet Now: $17.00) is knocking on the door to win. Just not sure it’s at this level but convinced he’s going well. Took on the older horses over the mile at Doomben a few weeks back and tried hard from off the pace but Great Powers was too good on the day. I think 2000m+ is when he’ll come into his own, but he’ll be strong at the end here.

8 Outback Barbie (Bet Now: $4.80) looks a near good thing. Quality mare for Tony Gollan that ended her Summer prep on an absolute high when winning the QTIS race on Magic Millions Day. Has been given a break and gee I loved her Doomben trial a few weeks ago. She looks to be flying and is on track to be a force this Winter Carnival.

You could go on for half an hour and the ride on 5 Vega One (Bet Now: $3.90) two weeks ago at the Sunny Coast but that aside, it’s clear to see that the horse has returned in enormous order and is spot on at this stage in readiness for the Stradbroke. Has a very good second up record and does have race fitness on his side over stablemate Outback Barbie.

9 Tambo’s Mate (Bet Now: $11.00) is a leading chance here. Just ridden a touch too warm here first up when a close up fourth to Mishani Hustler before stepping back to 1000m at the Sunny Coast when just off the speed and tried hard but was pipped near the peg by Just Orm. Think hard fit and back up to 1200m, he’ll take some beating.

I’ll go with 16 So Dapper (Bet Now: $8.00) to bounce back to her best. This four year old resumed over 1200m at the Sunny Coast and found the line alright I thought behind dominant winner Gee Tee Tee, an in form O’Dea galloper, so think that form reads alright for this, clearly suited up to the mile and gave them a spanking despite doing plenty wrong second up last prep.

3 Tokoriki Lad (Bet Now: $4.50) is racing super at the moment for Tony Gollan but can’t quite crack it for a win. Ran over the mile at the Sunny Coast a fortnight back when ridden a tad warm to get on speed, against his normal pattern, and to his credit, he showed really good ticker in the straight, only caught late by Profit. Perhaps with a more conservative steer this time around, he can take this out.

11 Mymming (Bet Now: $14.00) is a Stuart Kendrick trained mare that ran over the mile at the Sunny Coast a fortnight back where she was completely unwanted in betting but despite that, she worked home quite well and the effort was full of merit behind Profit, who is above average, so that form reads well. Does she want a rise in trip?

LONG SHOT: Race Two Number 8 Speaking Bad
